3 days in... Lots of confusion. Need support!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I'm three days in and and it is very frustrating being in this liquid phase. I'm so over it! I know I can't force anything, but I feel like I need to try different (mushies) foods. But it's a process and I have to wait I suppose.

I'm wondering if anyone else felt very disconnected the first few days, new band, new diet, new cravings... Etc. My biggest concern is will I ever be able to enjoy "regular" food (of course in moderation) again? If I want chicken nuggets once every month- will I be able to? It seems like the "normal" foods we eat before banding are out of the question.

Of course, I am well aware of healthier eating habits that I can and will adapt to. But the special times I want something like pizza, a half a burger, etc... I still want to enjoy.

Sorry for an anxious post, just going through the motions and need support!

Follow your doctor's orders even if you want to 'push it'. Don't. As far as eating foods you like again, you will probably be able to and as long as it's once in a while, no reason why you can't indulge. Good luck!

@sophiesmom12. Trust in the process. I promise this will pass. I do eat an occasional ck nugget..two at the most, make sure I chew the crap out of it. pizza, I eat only the toppings, burger, I eat it cooked med I eat everything but the bun. I don't eat bread, rice, grits. I limit my white potatoes, and Pasta.

A normal day I get up and have coffee (reg, not Decaf because the world couldn't handle me off coffee) one scrambled egg with cheese. lunch is Soup or something lite (grillEd shrimp, fish, chicken) baked sweet potato. Supper is a lot like lunch. If I want something sweet I'll eat a small bite or two of chocolate or one of the preparation single serving ice cream. I try to limit Snacks, but when I want it I eat it. Just in small amounts. And I only buy the best. I get the best I can afford and only eat one square. It works for me

Please don't push it. It's ok to mourn the loss of a lifetime of eating habits that brought you here in the first place. The process is slow, but you will get to the point where you can occasionally eat some of the things that you used to enjoy. When that time comes that you can expand your food selections, remember to cut the food into small pieces, eat slowly, avoid liquids before and after....failure to follow the rules can cause damage to your band.

Just make sure that the liquid that you are using is high in Protein. This will help to curb your feeling of hunger.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
