Three month progress report

Recommended Posts

Hello folks! I had my sleeve three months ago and want to post my progress. Here's the stats:

Highest weight- 380

Start weight-365

Surgery weight-351

Current weight-275

First of all I cannot believe I have lost over 100 pounds since my all time high. I used to think that if I could get down to 280 and stay there then is be happy. But I could never get down under 300 in all my weight loss attempts over the last 15 years. I used to see 275 as normal overweight! Now I'm dead set on getting to 200.

I exercise daily by walking and biking and plan To step it up once I have my knee surgery. I walk a lot even though my knee is in great pain sometimes.

Most days/times I feel fabulous but still suffer some nausea if I'm not careful what I eat. I think that's a good thing because it is a great learning tool for nor overeating!

I was I. Vacation recently and did things I never could have or would have done as recently as last year. I hiked daily, went canoeing a lot, swam a lot and rowed several miles in a rowboat as part of a camp triathlon. I probably logged five miles a day on foot. I canoed a fast river with my wife and manouvered like I did in my 20s. I could not even have canoed at all last year. I couldn't even have stood up from the seat, I was too big and my knees were too bad. Even with my recent injury to my knee, I could get up easy.

I am also just generally more active. I swim I. The backyard, have been working a lot around the house and am restoring a vintage carpenters bench for use as a kitchen island.

This is the best thing I've ever done. I just bought a new car, a Nissan pathfinder that I plan to use for more camping adventures.

If you are in the fence about getting this done, I highly recommend this surgery. It is the gateway to a new life!! Oh yeah, and my bariatrician asked me to speak at their informational meetings!

Best to all!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
