Birth Control and Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies,

Has anyone had an IUD and had wls? I've had my IUD now for almost a year and I'm terrified about having to take it out. Is it really necessary to take out for this surgery?

Any thoughts or advice would be great!

Thank you!

Really? What was the reasoning behind that? I've read everywhere that if you are on birth control you must stop it! I'm terrified of having to take it out!!

I think that edict refers to birth control pills or other hormonal methods. An IUD is a physical device that usually doesn't involve hormones or drugs.

I had the Mirena for 5 years I think? But a few years ago I had moved on to a tubal ligation, BC of some issues I had.

I have a mirena IUD. I did not have to remove it. It's hormonal action is localized rather than systemic, so it doesn't have the same issues with causing blood clots as the pill.

An IUD releases hormones....

Not all of them. The simple, copper ones don't. I have one and is like that. To be quite frank I don't really understand why wouldn't want to have a period. Is something natural, meant to happen to your body every month...but hey ho that's me...not related to the topic...pls don't get me wrong.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
