Hey all.... Sleeved 6/27, weight is coming off slowly but surely and I'm at the tail end of my restricted diet. My nutritionist told me only eat 3 meals a day and no snacking in between...

I've been doing it, and drinking Water between meals, but it is difficult. I haven't had any Snacks but am thinking about it since if I have something that's innocuous or has some nutritional value it should be ok, right??

I mean, is the whole "only eat 3 meals a day" even realistic?

Hmmmm, I was told 5 small meals / Snacks per day. Am down 103 lbs in 9 months, so works for me!

I don't eat three meals a day. I eat about 10, except they aren't meals as much as small Snacks. In theory, you are better off if you eat consistently throughout the day a small amount of food as opposed to eating only three meals a day in larger quantities. As someone who is newly sleeved, this allows you to get in enough Protein, and when you are further out and you can eat a lot more, it has already put you into the habit of eating smaller meals more frequently so you are less likely to be hungry and overeat at less frequent bigger meals.

I rarely sit down and actually eat a planned meal. Right now I'm eating a chicken patty...I'll eat about half of it and toss the rest. About 2 hours ago I had a turkey and cheese roll-up. Before that I had a handful of goldfish crackers, and before that I had a Fiber One Bar. I eat about 1500 calories a day, but I don't have a ton of issues with maintenance because I don't ever really get hungry and overeat.

I can't see how they expect you to get all of ur daily nutrients by only eating 3 meals a day if you aren't even 2 months out. With the size of ur pouch I'd hate to push it. I'm not sleeved yet, soon tho. My mom has hers jan 28th and she still doesn't eat only 3 meals a day, more like 5. Also keep in mind if you started out at a lower bmi the weight usually comes off slower than those with a higher bmi. But Idk ur stats. Are you able to get in all ur Protein required a day? What's ur Water intake like? I would think as long as you are keeping ur carb intake low if any at all you should be fine to add in a snack or two. What does ur calories a day look like?

I have 3 meals and two Snacks.

usually I measure out my food for the day and off it goes with me in my little lunch box. I eat when I feel like eating and by the the end of the day I've got my liquids and Protein in.

Weekends are a bit more tricky but that's 5 days out of 7 all wrapped up.

I think it's more important to meet your goals for fluids, Protein and calorie limits than the particular configuration of how you get it in.

I was told you end up doing 3 meals once you can eat more than what you can eat a few weeks/months after the op. So currently, I am 4 weeks in, and of course I eat little mini meals, so therefore I need to snack lol so my surgeon is pro 5-6 small meals, and then 3 meals when you can stomach more.

I try not to limit myself to a set number of meals and/or Snacks. For me if I set a specific schedule, and I happen to break it because I'm too busy, I start to stress out about it so instead I just eat when I'm hungry and I eat slowly and stop when I'm full. Some days, 3 meals might be it and others maybe 4, but they're all small and they're all healthy and so far I've been really satisfied with that...no bad hunger or anything like that, and it hasn't slowed my results.

I brought this up with my nutritionist and she thought it was a good idea, so long as what I'm eating is healthy.

My plan is to eat half a cup every three hours. So up 6 small meals/snacks per day. I usually have 5 per day. Works great cuz you never get really hungry. My cravings have been so minimal because there is no huge gap between eating. Also important is that they are not much different in size but density might vary. Like yoghurt at morning tea. Frittata at lunch. But cals are similar

At 2 years out, I am still working on creating the habit of eating only 3 meals per day. My nut also advised me to eat this way. I can say, I know for me, eating 3 meals a day is the key to maintaining my loss. When I eat many meals throughout the day, I overeat and gain weight. I can eat more than at 2 months out so those calories do add up.

My plan was three meals a day, no Snacks other than Protein Shakes.< /p>

I never had any problem getting in all the nutrients I needed.

I would advise against going off plan because you think you know better than your bariatric team, or because you've decided you like some internet stranger's post-op plan better than your own. You trusted your team to perform major surgery on you, now trust them to know how to guide you through post-op eating. If you have questions about your plan or feel like it isn't meeting your needs, you should be reviewing it with your team. Subjecting it to second guessing on the internet is not the route to success IMO. Good luck.

I couldn't get all of my Protein (100 grams) without eating protein-rich snacks and meals.

I was told to stick to three meals a day at regular meal times. The idea being to avoid getting back into grazing habits. I do occasionally have a little extra bite. Something like a pinch of shredded cheese, spoonful of Peanut Butter

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
