Drinking coffee

Recommended Posts

Its funny that you mention that because I had read a post where someone said that once you have this surgery coffee and tea is a no-no. i love coffee. love it. i can live without soda, but i hate the thought of giving up coffee (although i obviously will if i have to)...but i wondered WHY no coffee?? so actually, your post gives me hope!!

Fancypants- coffee is hard on the stomach and not recommend early on. I now drink it regularly but I'm 3.5 years out. Ask your program what they suggest.

I was willing to give up coffee to be healthy if needed, but was glad to find out that I was allowed to have it.

I enjoy it most days when I go to work. such a simple pleasure! Tea I normally have on Sunday evening.

Follow your nut's & surgeon's advice post surgery.

You are well into the last post WLS diet phase.

For others, you can start with Decaf. initially and then introduce caffeinated at the appropriate phase Up to 2 mugs of regular coffee max (I am well past the initial post op phases) is what my nut recommends -granted 0 cups is probably what she prefers.

Follow your nut's & surgeon's advice post surgery.

There are many sources of caffeine (tea, diet drinks, etc.) so keep that in mind, also, coffee can be a little acidic, so drinking a lot of decaf. coffee could still irritate the stomach.

My plan allows for coffee at 4 weeks post op. I haven't had it yet tho! Kinda miss it so maybe will try it soon.

My surgery was in February and I've lost 95lbs. I hated coffee before surgery, but now I'm pretty close to addicted. I love the stuff, especially iced coffee. I started drinking it about two months ago. Actually, I haven't had any yet today and I'm sitting here waiting for work to end so I can go. I don't really crave food anymore....BUT I CRAVE MY DELICIOUS COFFEE lol

I am a week away from surgery.

I wish I read this before I broke down and had a french roast coffee!!

I really don't drink much coffee, no soda, but after 3 days and nights of severe headaches.

Tylenol did not work. I had a coffee, miracle, no headache. I think I will start again after this cup.

My fav Decaf is Barista Prima Italian roast K cups @ Keurig site online. I did decaf pretty much post op week 2 on until 3-4 mo out and still alternate with regular at times to keep my caffeine a bit lower. If I drink too much caffeine, my stomach hurts. I am 9 months post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
