gastric sleeve advice please

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a bmi of 32,off on holiday next week so it is bound to rise over the two weeks away, my question is this,is there any way I can get a sleeve with this bmi, Ive been offered the band but really don't want it as there seems so many complications and horror stories

Would it help my case if my mum and two sisters have developed type 2 diabetes and my dad has had to have a quadruple heart bypass?

Anyone had the sleeve in uk with lower bmi and who did you go with?

Any advice greatly welcomed x

Is this on the NHS? If so, I've no idea as it seems to be a bit of a postcode lottery. My BMI was over 40 and I still didn't qualify in my area. Sorry I can't help.

Best thing to do is approach a couple of clinics and ask.

Most places will operate at a bmi of 40 with no comorbidities, or a bmi of 35 if you have them, so I think you find it difficult as for most places they will consider your bmi too low.

I have a bmi of 34, but also have high blood pressure. So the HBP is the comorbidity that is qualifing me for the sleeve. Here in Mi. The bmi must be 35 with no comorbidities. I dont think you families situation will help.could you self pay? I would inquire with your insurance carrier. Good luck

I think if you are happy to pay you will find that in UK you will find a clinic that will do your sleeve

I had my op with BMI at Werndale hospital Carmarthen paid privately

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
