No and yes, I was reading a manual that i received from the surgeon that will be doing my band and it did say that i could pig out a few days before surgery. I will see him tomorrow to ask him if this is true. but it is in the manual he gave me!

Well, I wouldn't call it a Pig-out day, but I'm sure many of us had what was kind of a farewell dinner of sorts.

I visited my mother the weekend before my surgery and asked that she prepare some of my favorite foods. She lives far away and always cooks special meals for us when we visit. I didn't eat massive amounts of food but I sure did enjoy the meals knowing it would be a year before I tasted most of them again.

I told my mother and sisters about the surgery before I went home and they were all very supportive.

My surgeon required that I lose 12 lbs in order to qualify for the surgery and didn't specify how. I lost the 12lbs plus some more.

I didn't eat enough during that weekend to jeopardize the surgery.

If you're concerned about it, just call the office. They're there to help you. I don't want to give you the go-ahead and you end up not having the surgery because you put on too much weight right before your lapband insertion.

I was on a very strict diet for a full week prior to surgery...for the whole liver thing. So, if you are less than a week away then I would say you missed the boat.

Your surgeon's book says you can have a pig out day??!! That's too funny! My surgeon would never permit a pig out day regardless of when my surgery was scheduled for! He must be a fun guy!

Hi all , I suppose your mind should start asap- a pig out day just delays the process, its all a mind game. Try to think that you are choosing to be good to your body eating less to prepare. Good luck

Honestly, I was going to have "pig-out" days, but then I'd take a bite of it and think, these aren't so good anymore. They really lost their taste and I felt so bad eating them. I've had little portions of what my favorite foods are, but most of all, I am ready to get going with the process.

I don't see why a doctor would give you the go ahead, that is a little messed up, IMO. I was just told that I couldn't weigh more than I did on the day of the seminar (272) and I've lost one pound so far. I am maintaining it and once I get closer to my surgery, I will be on a pre-op diet with liquids only.

I'm surprised your doctor would give you literature that would say you could have a "pig out day". Dependant upon your doctor, he may say you have to go on a liquid diet prior to your surgery to help your liver shrink for the surgery. Some patients have to lose so many percent of their weight to even qualify for the surgery. So, if I were you I'd ask your doctor what you have to do to prepare for your surgery.

For me, my doctor didn't order any special diets prior to surgery. Only that I have liquids 24 hours prior and nothing after midnight before surgery. I won't lie, I did go out and eat at my favorite restaurants before the procedure. Though, I knew I was having the surgery because I have weight to loose, by pigging out before surgery, that's just MORE weight I have to work off after surgery...and that thought kept me from eating everything in sight.

I Am On My Second Week Of Liquids And Today I Will Ask My Doctor About This "pig Out" Day. Not That I Want To "pig Out" But I Would Like To Eat One Of My Favorite Meals If I Can. I Believe The Manuel Is Saying "if You Must" Pig Out It Is Better To Do It A Few Days Before The Surgery. I Have Already Lost Alot Of Weight, But I Promise You I Won't Do Anything To Prolong My Surgery, It Already Seems Like The Day Will Never Come!! But I Just Wanted To See If Anybody Else Heard It Also.

I didn't have a pig out day, but I also was not required to go on any kind of diet pre-op. I was trying to modify the last week before the surgery, but some unseen person sneaked in and hit me over the head the day before surgery and dragged me (kicking and screaming you know) to this Chinese restaurant down the street. It was horrible.....they bound me to this chair and ordered ALL THIS STUFF! And then they put this gun to my head, see, and they said they would blow me away and I'd never see my surgery day if I didn't eat every speck! Well, let me tell you I was SCARED!!! So I ate, and ate and ATE! And then they blindfolded me and threw me in this car and the next thing I knew I was back in my house sitting on the couch with a stomach ache. WOW! I ate so much I had a raging stomach ache all night before surgery, which really scared me! Yeah, that's what happened... That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

I agree it's a mind game. The sooner you get used to the new way of eating, the better off you're going to be. What's the purpose of a pig-out day when you need to change the way you eat?

Just my opinion.

It will not hurt you if you don't mind what the scale says. I wish I had eaten a double cheeseburger from In N Out! I also miss Subway sandwiches. I don't think it would hurt you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
