Did i really need the surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

I'm 22yrs old my weight was 185 and height is 5'5. Im 5 days post-op and have only lost 5.5lb and i feel hungry all the time.

My doctor has only removed 65% of my stomach as i only need 50lb to lose.

I feel devastated that i've only lost this much so please tell me guys what do you think?

Has anyone done the surgery with the same or close height and weight as mine?

i'll say the same thing I said in the other thread.I think NO you did NOT need the surgery. Your starting weight is my GOAL weight.

I'm assuming that you have multiple comorbidities as that is the only way you would have qualified for surgery (with my surgeon anyway).

Either way 5lbs in 5 days post op is a good loss. After surgery some people even gain due to fluids given in the hospital and inflammation. Just stick to your plan. Focus on fluids and Protein and don't look on the numbers so much until you're a little further out.

And ive heard that the less you have to lose the slower it comes off. My starting weight was 297.6 and I just hit 175.2 today after 7 months

The hunger you're feeling may actually be acid. Did your surgeon order a PPI for you to take? Pantoprazole, oneprazole, or any other similarly named drug?

I don't think YOUR goal weight has anything to do with whether or not this person needed the surgery. There are tons of other factors you know nothing about that could be at play here. A BMI over 30 is still obese.

My weight has nothing to do with it, just a reference. I think someone who only needs to loose 50 lbs should not have life altering permanent surgery. And clearly based on the other comments they made, not being happy loosing more than a pound a day, suggests that this person is either trolling or was incredibly ill prepared for the realities of surgery. This person has started TWO threads on this subject and in both of them has not mentioned any comorbidities. So just my opinion, they should not have had surgery.

Dear sophie, it is my first time in this app so i thought that first thread was deleted thats why i re-wrote it. And the reason as to why i had this surgery is because i'm diagnosed with pcos and have gained 40lbs in less than a year. And said that if i didn't do anything about i can easily be diabetic.

my opinion....it's your life do what you want, the choices are yours. In my opinion 40 lbs isn't a huge amount. Before my sleeve I could easily start a diet and loose 40-60 lbs. I had PCOS too.

Did you have any other factors? with that low of a bmi it's odd that anyone would do the surgery without major comorbidities

One regret for most sleevers is that we didn't do it sooner. You did it sooner. Having PCOS makes it very hard to lose weight. Especially for those who don't have a eating disorder, where simply changing our diet and exercising would be beneficial. I fought PCOS to lose weight for 20+ years. I am not or ever been an over eater or binge eater and I wasn't able to successfully lose until I had the surgery. It was all metabolic and hormonal for me. Everyone is not a cookie cutter example of what a good candidate for surgery would be.

Hi Jaysmm! I am 5'3" and weighed 188! I was sleeved on August 1st! Don't worry about anybody else approving or disapproving of you having surgery! It's not their life! The fact we chose early on to do something about our OBESE problem is a good thing as far as I am concerned! I personally did not want to wait until I had 100 lbs or more to lose and that was the best and right decision for my life! I had spent way too much money on failed diets and continued to gain it all back and then some! Yes, I had other issues BUT they were issues I was on medication for and had been for years and they were not the deciding factor for me opting to have the surgery! The fact that I was OBESE, no matter it was on the low side of obesity, was the deciding factor for me! I've lost 14 lbs. but it was what I lost prepping for surgery! I have stayed off the scales since my surgery and plan on doing that until all my swelling is gone! You do not have as much to lose so it will come off slower! Don't stress over or focus on trying to lose the weight overnight but focus on this being a tool to help you make healthier food choices and live a healthier life! Stick to the plan your doc and nutritionist gave you and the weight will come off! Good luck to you and good for you doing something early on and not waiting! I am very grateful I was blessed to be able to get this done before I was 200, 300 or even 400 lbs. heavier!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
