Thecloude1 342 Posted August 5, 2016 I've been getting worried at the amount of food I can eat now that I'm almost 6 months post op....for Supper last night I was able to eat half of a 7oz piece of salmon and roughly half of a baked sweet potato....at this point I wasn't stuffed...didn't really feel "full" either ....then for Breakfast this morning we were meeting friends at Denny's and I had no problem eating 2 over easy eggs and 2 pieces of bacon....this just scares me! [emoji53]. Anyone else have these fears? I still have a long ways to go...I'm sitting at 233 and my surgeons goal weight for me is 155.... I started this journey at 324... Surgery weight 295. Pazza 199 Posted August 5, 2016 Following. I'm approaching 4 months out and food reintegration has not gone well. So I'm still on a lot of Protein shakes but this is something I think about. Have you been able to talk with your dr about it? Do you keep track of calories or Protein? If so, what does your daily amount look like?
Thecloude1 342 Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) Pazza....I have my 6 month appt with my Dr on the 18th..I will definitely bring up my concerns..I do track my calories and protein...on an average day I get around 1,000 calories..sometimes a little less or a little more...my Protein stays around 75 grams a day....water is usually around 64 oz. I have been very fortunate with food as far as not getting sick. I walk 5-6 times a week for an hour or so ...I do not go to a gym , may consider that this Winter. Thank you for taking the time to reply , I wish you the best in your journey! [emoji3][emoji106] Edited August 5, 2016 by Thecloude1
Cervidae 2,389 Posted August 5, 2016 at 6 months, my bariatric center was suggesting a half cup to a cup of food, especially if it's not super dense like chicken or steak. I have trouble reaching that amount for a couple months after that point, but a lot of people in my support group were doing just fine. 3.5 ounces of fish and maybe like 3-4 ounces of sweet potato sounds sort of exactly where you should be. Just be aware that you may not experience quite as much restriction as a lot of people do and plan your meal amounts accordingly. It may also be wise to use something like myfitnesspal to log all the food and the amounts you're eating. I'm betting you're doing better than you think you are. pmanley 45 Posted August 5, 2016 I can do about a cup of denser food pretty easy...I am a little over 9 months out.
RJC5197 282 Posted August 5, 2016 At 3 months out I can eat a cup of chili, and most other foods without feeling full. i eat no more since that is the max amount for calories for that meal. I had a revision and Dr said I have a normal size pouch, but I took this as a less sensitive pouch. I also never felt other than satisfied, never full or stuffed like others say they do, so I am glad I am not alone.

Thecloude1 342 Posted August 5, 2016 Cervidae...thank you so much for your input....I'm probably being paranoid but also want to be in tune to what I should be eating volume wise...I don't want to fail after all I've been through thus far that's for sure [emoji3][emoji106] Pmanley....thank you! Djmohr 6,965 Posted August 5, 2016 I pretty much followed the guidelines set by my nut. There were times when I knew I could eat more but it is not necessary. That is what is most critical for us to learn. (Just because we can, doesn't mean we should) Feeling full now is different too. You should never feel stuffed, it should simply be that you don't feel hungry. That is why measurement in the first year is so critical. Because we did not know what a portion size was before surgery. If you stick to whatever measurements your nut has set for you, then I wouldn't worry. As for eating 2 full eggs plus bacon that seems like a lot of food at this stage. Very good Protein but as I look at my book that the nut gave me, 1 egg and a slice of turkey bacon should be enough to satiate your hunger. I hope this makes sense, it can be confusing and can cause stress when you don't know and you are learning.
Thecloude1 342 Posted August 5, 2016 Djmohr.....my Nut recommends 3/4 to 1 cup of food at this point...3oz of lean Protein plus .25 cup veggie and .25 cup fruit or potato....as with most plans , suppose to eat in the order of protein, veggie, fruit, whole grain. Thank you for the advice! At least I do know that it is considerably less then I could eat prior to surgery! [emoji3][emoji106]. I will bring up my concern with both my Dr and Nut in a couple weeks....I just don't want to mess this up!
sgrennan 7 Posted August 11, 2016 I'm 5 months post op and in your exact same boat. I feel like I can eat the same amount and not feel full. I do log my food into my fitness pal, and stick to around 800-1000 cal. I've lost 57 lbs. I am a band to RNY girl.
