Tikie 2 Posted August 5, 2016 New to this forum and just nervous. My journey to this point only took 2 months, surgery date is August 23. I was so surprised and happy that everything went so fast. I'm a new widow who's on this journey all alone, no family in the immediate area and not so sure they would be positive support if they were here. I know I have to do this for me, and me alone. I'm limited in my activity level due to bad knees and hips (need surgery but first need to lose weight). Will be starting the pre-op diet on 8/9, started purging the kitchen of all foods not the lists, hoping to remove any temptations that would sneak in. Any other ideas to help me prepare for this would be appreciated.
kmorri 1,689 Posted August 5, 2016 Good luck on your upcoming surgery. My surgery was back on May 16th. You'll do great. My suggestion for now is to really study your post-op diet directions and start putting a plan together for that....don't wait until you get to each stage to wonder what you'll eat......don't go crazy stocking up on Protein drinks or powders.....you may not like the brand after surgery. Remember that you'll be eating very very small amounts, you don't need 10 or 20 cans of Soup...hahaha If you don't have any ice trays buy a couple. When I opened a can of Soup and pureed it, I poured the rest in an ice tray and froze it. Once frozen put the little cubes in a freezer bag. Two to three cubes are perfect for a meal..Progresso Lite Soups are great for this! ..and after you move on to regular food the frozen soup is perfect for seasoning when roasting meats. Please feel free to message me with any questions you have and I'll do my best to help support you. Thanks, Kathy
#9grammy 274 Posted August 5, 2016 How exciting for you to begin this next journey in your life. There is a forum on here somewhere called the over 50. Gosh I can't remember it but so many people on there that has had weight loss in the 50's and beyond. I had mine done at 57 years, was the best thing I've ever done. My knees and hips are doing much better without the extra weight. Good luck on your journey. Oh and there are a lot of people on here to "help" you go through this. swimbikerun 1,046 Posted August 5, 2016 Hi, Question for you: how are you going to make out in the first days after surgery and getting home? You indicate you have physical problems already, so that might be a concern. Did your surgeon or the office talk about that? I think that would be more of a concern than anything else. Tikie 2 Posted August 5, 2016 Thank you all for posting, it's comforting to know that there is someone out there who will understand what I'm going through. I do have a neighbor, who is a certified home health aide that is going to take me to and from the hospital and check up on me those first couple of days, so I should be ok there.
