OK I am freaking out. The Hunger is real. I went to the Angels game last night and even things I don't eat I wanted to put in my mouth. Ugh the struggle is real. Any good ideas on anything other than the norm? I can't even have gum :-(

That's about the time I started struggling with cravings too and yep even for things I don't really like or that I hadn't eaten in a decade or more. So I can commiserate. However, just remember those feelings aren't actual hunger - it's our heads messing with us. Our stomachs had surgery, our brains didn't. We are in a major life change and the brain sometimes is a little slow to accept the change. Try to focus on why you had the surgery and then just try to find something to distract your attention away from the cravings. It isn't easy, but we have to power through it. It will get easier as our new lifestyle becomes more routine. You can do it!

SusieQ63 I am a very bad person. I have already started smoking again. The cough is what kills you. Stay strong.

I'm afraid of smoking but Ive been doing it because im just addicted to it. I miss food and because I do I smoke to take mind off. I always smoked when I dieted . My mind is all screwed up.

In addition to calling your nutritionist, try to find bariatric support groups - the nutritionist may be able to recommend one. Also maybe a therapist who has some experience working with bariatric patients? That might help more with the psychological aspect of the food addiction and how to find other coping mechanisms when the cravings hit

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
