First night banded... 14 hours in.

Recommended Posts

Good evening everyone. I was banded at 8:00am EST. Everything was manageable until about one hour ago. The pain from the gas almost seems unmanageable. I'm not trying to scare any newbies, but I'm at a loss of what I should do. It just won't go away and my pain medicine will not touch it because it's not from a nerve type pain.

Help! Very scared and sad right now.

Sarah

Not to be scared. The gas is expected. It will take as long as it takes to become history. Try walking, taking into account that your incisions are new.

Good tip: For the time that the incisions are sore, press a pillow firmly yet gently against them when you cough, sneeze or laugh. The pillow will brace you for the little jolts.

Everyone will say it, but trust us, it's true. Walk walk walk. Your body has to absorb all that gas and it takes a long time for that to happen. The only way to help it along is to move. It will go away eventually.

Don't be scared this is totally normal the best thing you can do is walk around and trying to get the gas out. Without any kind of medicine because it made me feel. It's a really rough thing for about 3 days and then it gets so much better good luck

I was banded 8/1 so I'm only 5 days in. Today is the day that the shoulder tip pain is 99% gone. Just give it a few days.

As has been said, walk. A heating pad was soothing to me as well as gasX strips (but check with your medical team first). I had very little pain except for the trapped gas in my shoulder.

Don't be nervous or scared. This is a process no matter what type of Bariatric surgery you have. Best wishes on a speedy recovery.

Glad you're feeling better today. Walking is definitely the best thing you can do for the gas. The challenges are not insurmountable, and the results can make it all worthwhile.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
