Week 3 - purée stage - how do u know when to stop ?

Recommended Posts

Ok .. Today starts week 3 - purée stage ...

I can have scrambled eggs so I made myself one this am .... I ate it and seemed to go down fine ... BUT I was scared that I would eat to much ?? I ate about 3/4 of it and could have eaten the whole thing ??

Is that normal ?? I just don't understand the amount of food that I should be able to take it .. I thought i wouldn't even be able to eat a whole egg ?

Thoughts ?? Ideas ? Any help appreciated

Just go slow. You will start to learn what satisfies you and what is one bite too many.

It helps to weigh and measure your food. But, something like an egg (depending on the size of an egg) is fairly easy to count in MyFitness Pal as a serving without measuring.

Practice eating mindfully. Take small bites, chew thoroughly, put your utensil down between bites, and pay attention to how you are feeling.

You will start to learn what works.

My nut gave me guidelines to help, and one egg was a serving. I am on 2 oz meals. I weigh, I also purchased a lot of 2oz size plastic cups with lids to make meals easier to prepare or measure food on the spur of the moment.

My biggest problem is not eating too fast, it is uncomfortable, so I go slow, small bites.

Good luck!

In the pureed stage I wouldn't eat more than 2 oz. If you eat too much, you will know. It's important to eat slowly, and when you start to feel uncomfortable, stop (for me, if I get a tightness in my throat- not heartburn- I'm full)...overeating is awful.

For the meals I prepare at home I use a food scale to weigh out 2 oz portions. On purees it's really hard to know when to stop because they may not fill you up, so the food scale is clutch.

My plan says 1oz portions.

I'm not supposed to start puree until tomorrow, but I tried a tiny bit of fat-free cottage cheese just now because well I'm a bad person, lol. 1 oz of cottage cheese was a joke. I felt no restriction. I could've easily eaten the entire 4oz container, just like I can down 4oz of drinkable yogurt.

I imagine and hope pureed meat will go down differently. Hopefully I'll feel some restriction. 1 oz just seems insanely low. How am I supposed to get my Protein in? Eat 20 1oz portions a day?!

I don't think I felt any restriction on purees to be honest. I was allowed to have well chewed soft food as part of my purees though, so maybe a little bit with something like tuna fish.

I feel it now on the full soft food phase with stuff like grilled chicken and ground meat.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
