I made a mistake.

Recommended Posts

Today is my clear fluids only day and I started off doing really well. But when I went to my friend's house, I wasn't thinking, and I drank Lactaid milk with Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup. I'm so scared that I may have just sabotaged my surgery; which is tomorrow 5 o'clock sharp.

I don't even know why I did it. I guess I was so used to being able to drink any liquid with low fat and no sugar, that I completely forgot about the clear liquid rule. I feel like a failure right now. :(

I know everyone's surgeon has specifics. For example, I have no liquid diet requirement prior to surgery, just two high Protein low fat, low carb meals and a shake for two weeks.

Be honest and speak to your team tomorrow. It may be just fine. Good luck and breathe.

@@Hiraeth - well that sucks almost as much as me almost eating peanuts on the flight home from my surgery ;-). Push it out with more Water. If you have been doing everything else right and you tell you doctor you should be fine. BUT it is a great reminder to BE MINDFUL. just saying ;-)

I would say as well that you drink more clear fluids than you originally planned on doing. And be honest with the surgeon and team - it may be fine but better safe than sorry.... Good luck to you on your surgery!!

My surgeon allowed me to eat real solid food up until midnight before surgery in the morning. I'm sure with a little milk you will be fine. Each surgery group seems to have their own plan. But we all turn out OK. Good luck with your surgery.

You should be fine. Call up your surgeon's office and let them know for your own peace of mind.

@ chicken Lady - the surgeon I have considered also doesn't require a liver-shrinking diet pre-op either. Just typical pre-surgery protocol.

The bond between surgeon and patient is sacrosanct.

However, it works both ways. If you expect and want your surgeon to be truthful and knowledgeable with you and have your surgery to be a complete success, then YOU have to be 100% honest with her/him.

Tell him everything that you ate/drank that you know you should not have.

That is how it works.

Take responsibility for your actions as you expect your surgeon to do when operating on your body.

All will be as it is meant to be.

Following your program to the "T" now shows commitment and dedication for the post op life changes to come.

I believe in you and your successful choices.

Please post back and let us know how you are doing. I'm rooting for YOU. :)

Yes I did. And I still do. At first, it was the horrible gas pains in my neck and left arm that was unbearable. I think the gas pains are gone. But now I'm so tender and sore in my belly and legs. Every time I breathe deeply, talk, stand up, sit down, I hurt. I don't know why my legs are cramping this much.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
