I just got banded last Friday (3 days ago). I'm back riding my excersice bike 20 minutesa day. My doctor told me I could go home from the hospital and do everything I did before the surgery. I guess you should check with your doctor. Good luck! Jane

I was told to take it real easy for 4 weeks, except for walking. So I went ahead and joined a gym and got on the treadmill every day....walked as far as I wanted.

I went for the 4 week follow up and he gave me the clearance to do whatever I wanted....just not to lift any "very heavy weights".

4 weeks seems to be the standard answer, but your surgeon may be different.

I was told to walk as as much as possible. I live on a 3rd floor walk up so I walked back and forth the hallways of my apartment building the day after surgery. By day 3, I was walking on the street in the beautiful October weather.

As I saw the weight coming off, I wanted to head to the gym but the doc said nothing more than walking for the first 6 weeks. I think I waited an extra two due to Christmas and I remember my port area was still a little tender from the motions... again, your doctor is the best person to ask about this but it seems most of us are 4-6 weeks.

PS I love your enthusiasm!

Hi,

I just wanted to put this out there after reading everyone's posts. I play sand volleyball once a week and bowl every other. When asking my doc when I could return to volleyball ...he said "couple of weeks ought to do it" I was surprised when I heard that and now being one week out of surgery I am actully shocked! My 2 week follow-up is next Friday so I plan on checking again.....did any one experience a short term recovery?

My doc said walking right away, other cardio was fine too, weight training and circut machines had to wait for six weeks.

Might I suggest that you hit it hard right now before your surgery? I'm assuming you don't exercise now, which is bad of me so ignor me if I am wrong...but you will be in better cardio health for the surgery and muscles have "memory" so when you do get back to strength training you'll be further ahead of the game. Also losing a few pounds pre surgery is always good.

You'll do great!

Well, that IS interesting. If you can stand being away from it, I (personally) would wait a solid 4 weeks. The risk is tearing the stitches that hold the band and port in place. If you tear the band ones, you are at higher risk for slippage. If you tear the port stitches you are at risk for flipping it....both of which would require surgery to repair. I don't think it's worth it...but that's me! :(

My 95 pound dog pulls only when other dogs are around-its a problem being 2 weeks out of surgery. Last week I walked him ( 1 1/2 weeks post op), and he pulled as we passed another dog enering my building, it really hurt! Tonight was worse! I hope I didn't tare my stitched-I don't want band slippage! Imput please.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
