No support, Traveling to Mexico, alone...

Recommended Posts

I went to Mexico twice for surgery and never felt alone. It is very safe. You will be taken care of better than in the US.

I've had to deal with my mother being unsupportive, so I totally understand! My best friend had surgery at Tijuana Bariatrics 5 months ago and she has done GREAT! She is my inspiration for doing this!

People tend to think it's crazy to go to Mexico, but it's not like we are going to a tent on a dirt road with docs that are holding rusty knives

They are hospitals that are very clean and the staff all speak English. An RN on the support group forum I use on FB said it was cleaner than the hospital she works at here in the US!

In the end, it's your body and your choice. I have told my mother that my obesity and diabetes is far more dangerous for me than having this surgery. She hasn't said another word about it since I said that. Stay strong and know that you have lots of support from people like myself! My surgery is in 29 days

Marie1120 have you had your surgery yet? I am scheduled 8/16 at Angeles, my sister is going with me but would love to share her with you if the timing works.

Thank you so much! I won't be having my surgery until around October. I currently work two jobs so I'm trying to make sure I give enough time in advance to get a week off from both jobs.

Well just wanted to update everyone. My surgery will be on the 10th of October. I'm giving myself time in advance to get everything sorted out. I'm getting very nervous as its only two months away!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
