Anyone treated for H . pylori

Recommended Posts

I was diagnosed with H. Pylori when I had an upper endoscopy last year. I took a course of antibiotics for treatment. When I started going through the process for WLS one of the things I had to do was take a breath test to determine if the infection had cleared; it had and all is well.

I did. Had to take medication (antibiotics) for a week I think.

Thanks appreciate the information. I haven't received my prescription yet and I was wondering. This will set me back by 2 months or more.

I was treated for it too. Never heard of it before they found it in my EGD. I did a two-week protocol, two different antibiotics and a PPI at the same time. My surgeon made me wait 12 weeks after finishing the protocol to do the breath test. It did delay my surgery, and at the time I was very frustrated. But knowing that it is gone and that we have a healthier tummy was well worth it.

They found through testing that it had given me a peptic ulcer years ago that I didn't get diagnosed. Knowing that it had already given me an ulcer, it was very important for it to be gone. It can lead to more ulcers and stomach cancer for some people.

So glad to see many went thru H. Pylori treatment (not happy for everyone but ..) . I started trying to get on track for VSG and after meeting doc had blood work test for h.pylori and came back positive. Started antibiotics today, 13 more days to go. After this he will do endoscopy. I thought I'd be negative, so much for that-- I eat healthy no junk. I read how fruits can even pass to you, go figure. At this rate I'm thinking January.

My clinic put me on a two week antibiotic treatment and then a breath test. The test was positive still. Another round of antibiotics, but they said they would leave it at that and not even test again. Hope it works out for you.

I had it before surgery, took the antibiotic regimen and then weeks after surgery they tested again. Still there. Have to go see doc Monday to see what their next plan of attack is. Surprised to find out that 3 out of 4 people have h pylori. It's very common and most don't ever find out they have it.

@@gustavio Your surgeon did the sleeve while you were positive? Mine will not do it if test positive. I am hoping this first round works. Good luck tomorrow, keep us updated on plan B.

He didn't retest me after my round of antibiotics. I guess he assumed it was gone? Idk. But then after (3-4 weeks after surgery) he says "hey did we ever get a follow up stool sample from you" I say "no" so he scheduled it. Just came back pos again the other day.

I was diagnosed with H. pylori also. Did the two weeks antibiotic regime, breath tested 4 weeks after. Still there. Sleeve surgery was done 1 week into the second two weeks antibiotic regime. My surgeon made sure that I was still given the antibiotics after the surgery and I continued them after being released to home. I go back for breath test in 3 weeks. I won't take the antibiotics again. They make me sick to the stomach.

Thanks, I was kind of worried that maybe IF he would do and positive I'd feel sick. I haven't been sick since like 1992 :) I think that's why I am still so scared of surgery. I'm only on day 3...11 days to go. I hate taking antibiotics (especially such a heavy amount). I had read some do the 2nd bout and still test positive. Crazy how we have these damn parasites and never even knew. I know some people have stomach issues cuz of them.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
