Day 8 post-op, strange symptoms

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I've been feeling off all day. I had a Protein Shake for Breakfast, a few spoons of Tomato basil Soup for lunch, and another Protein shake at dinner. In between, I'm drinking lots of Water but feel thirsty all the time.

So today I got chills and my fingernail beds turned blue for about 15 minutes. I have a tiny temp of 100.1 but most bothersome is burping, a little tummy cramping, and just a very uncomfortable feeling in the bowels. I haven't had any BM issues.

Am I over analyzing... I mean, am I being neurotic? I'm so uncomfortable but I thought I was doing everything right. Anyone else dealt with this kind of discomfort and what was causing it?

Thanks so much for caring, sincerely!

So I'm dehydrated. Blood pressure just 88/57. Had to call in ultrasound just to get a vein for an IV, mine kept blowing out.

On top of that, I have a UTI which caused the fever/chills and abdominal discomfort. I didn't have any pain while urinating so I had no clue.

I had the full workup and CT with contrast, wounds examined, he says it is perfectly fine and healing well.

I have been measuring my fluids and shakes, but as I said, I have been so so so thirsty even so. I need to do my best to drink even more. I had to drink 16 oz of Water with the dye inside and was scared I couldn't. But with minimal discomfort I finished in 40 min. So I've been too scared to keep drinking even when thirsty because I thought I'd vomit or hurt myself. Turns out I need to listen to my body because it is Water starved!

I'm getting antibiotics as ns Fluid, and will go home in a couple hours.

Thanks again do much.

@@piemonade, I'm glad that you are feeling better, and they were able to diagnose the problem to start you on the road to recovery. As far as the dehydration and UTI goes, you need to try to drink plenty of Water. The first week after surgery, I was super scared to overload the new stomach (as it only holds 4 oz.). However, on a follow-up visit to my doctor's office, I was advised that anything liquid passes straight through. After hearing that, I was able to feel more comfortable with drinking more water/liquids (i.e. chicken broth) which you can do at least 30 minutes after/before any meal. Since then, I am able to get in at least 64 oz a day, and my bloodwork came back great.

I wish you the best in your recovery, with your overall general health, and with your continued success at reaching your goal!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
