I kind of wish that I didn't have a scale! I get so obsessed with weighing myself! :(

I just could not live without my scale. It is just one barometer in how you are doing but I learned so much about my eating habits because of it.

You see, I was one of the crazy people that weighed every day, once per day at the same time every morning.

As time progressed I learned how to have a good relationship with my scale. I would talk to it and explain if I already knew it was not going to be good and other times it surprised me.

What I really learned was that if I chose to go off plan and ate something really salty that I was literally going to retail Water that would show up as a gain of 1 or 2 lbs. I knew it wasn't real because I certainly didn't eat enough to gain 2 lbs but I learned that if I choose to go off plan, the scale will be my truth. Because of it, I rarely went off plan enough to make that scale go the wrong way. It only has happened a few times.

In addition to leveraging the scale I used clothing to tell me how I was doing. Even if I was in a stall and the numbers didn't move, my clothes were getting smaller in places. The scale kept me honest.

That is just the way I approached . Now that I am at maintenance I weight myself maybe 3 times a week and even sometimes once per week.

Again, my clothing tells me if I am losing or gaining or maintaining.

Im two days away and I dont own a scale either. I literally haven't home tracked my weight in 10 years. As a teen my mother would always make me weigh myself as she shoved diet pills down my throat. I hated it. Because then I became obsessed with checking it, and subsequently depressed when it could no longer determine my weight.

I've been looking for one to purchase, but I haven't really seen it thru. I know eventually Im going to need one. But Im going to give myself a month or two, just a chance to adjust without that added stress of "oh my god Im not losing fast enough" right out the gate.

It's never too late, until its too late

I think that as you start to lose you will become more interested in your scale and the number. For now, the doctor visits will give you a good barometer as to where you are.

You just do You! There's no hard fast rule on the scale!

As other have said you don't have to, and it may be something you don't want to obsess with. I stopped tracking mine after about a year but I also noticed some weight creeping back on and decided I needed to be more accountable than my occasional doctors appointment. The I discovered my scale is actually broken so I'm going out after work to pick up a new one.

I never liked weighing before, but I weigh very often now. As already mentioned by Djmohr it is a good tool for me to see what is working and what isn't. I can tell if I'm lacking fluids, retaining Water, stalling... And oddly enough there have been a few times where a day of eating a bit more has jump started my weight loss again. It has really helped me understand what my body needs better. But that's the beauty of this whole process. You figure out what works for you as you go and you stick with it.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
