Diet changes months before surgery

Recommended Posts

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get my carbs down. I'm not eating bread/pasta, I'm having1 8 oz soda, and lots of veggies. . . but my carbs are still way higher than this. Today I'm trying to go w/out any soda. I've quit it a couple of times already.

The only way I know to get carbs down is to cut out grains altogether. I do no grains at all. My carbs come from fruits, veggies, nuts etc. Also, no sugar except fresh fruit. I use a little stevia when I really need some sweetness.

After reading these threads I checked MFP to look at my carb counts - I don't eat bread or Pasta but my carbs are close to 100 a day (or more) - need to get that number down!!

See that is what I am running into. I haven't been eating any "typical" carbs, having lettuce wrapped turkey burgers instead of a bun, no fries, etc, and yet my carbs were still outrageously high. I'm going to start tracking again better next week. We are super broke this week, and Pasta is one way we are stretching our dinners. After this month, $700 a month goes back into the budget since we no longer have to pay for daycare, so I will be better able to get back on track then. I also haven't even gotten any farther than checking my insurance that it is covered, and checking dates and times for seminars about the sleeve. I am not really even looking to try and get going until late fall if not in January, but I want to start working on my eating habits now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
