Tricare Prime North questio

Recommended Posts

I am just starting the process of getting WLS, my PCP sent a referral straight through with no questions - my BMI is 51.3 so she felt it was a good step for me to take. I called today to "activate" the referral and was told that the request is being reviewed for a second opinion. Has anyone else dealt with this? The person I talked to couldn't give me any information about how this process would work and I've never come across it before.

Any help is appreciate.

They did finally approve it and I have my first appointment with the clinic they referred me too on Monday. Hopefully things will continue the to move forward. An upside is my PCP knows the process which helps calm my nerves.

I have Tricare Prime Remote West region. My paperwork was just sent in today, talk about being on pins and needles. I'm scared to death they will deny it but I have done everything on their requirements. 4 month supervised diet, BMI of 43 with PCOS, GERD and pretty sure I have sleep apnea but my PCP didn't want to do a night test since I was pursuing this. I don't have much experience with Tricare I admit. I've been a spouse for over 2 years but I don't go to the doctor often. Good luck on your journey!

Tracy I hope it continues to progress smoothly. I agree it does help when your doctor knows tricare well.

Singerbabe, I am tricare west too but I dropped to standard just so I could pick my surgeon. They said that they deal with tricare standard often.

I have my psych evaluation this week and I have my first consultation with the surgeon tomorrow. My bmi is 40.75. I am hoping that everything keeps falling into place.

I didn't have to do a psych eval, at least not yet. My stuff is still processing with Tricare so we will see what they come back with.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
