Stalls are completely normal, especially in the first several weeks after surgery. Stay off the scale for a while. You really can't control them, and trying to do it will make you nuts.

It's important for you to get your Protein in. It isn't important if you like your Protein Drink. You just need something you can choke down without vomiting. You can worry about liking something in a few weeks or months -- right now you are eating/drinking for nutrition and healing, not for entertainment.

Are you taking your Vitamins with something substantial (protein drink, yogurt, etc.)? Taking them on an empty stomach is going to be very hard on your stomach. You may want to switch to one that is easier to digest at least on a temporary basis. liquid vitamins (such as Wellesse) and non-bariatric vitamins tend to be easier on the stomach.

Remember that it takes several weeks for any sort of Vitamin deficiency to develop, so a few weeks on a non-bariatric vitamin should not hurt you. I can tell you I am 3+ years post-op, have never taken a bariatric vitamin, and have never come anywhere close to having any sort of vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Hang in there and good luck! It will get easier but for now you just need to look at this as work to do and a time of healing and recuperation before things get back to a more normal state.

Hey! I had surgery 7/11 and I'm in the same boat. I lost 20+ pounds the first week and now have lost practically nothing. I'm exercising and getting in Protein and Water but still have not seen the scale move. I was going to come on and ask about it but saw your post. I am going to my 3 week appointment tomorrow and will let you know what they say when I talk with them about it. But you're not alone!

Losing 20lbs in a week is incredible! Your body needs time to adjust. You need to find other ways of getting protein - as it is critical to healing and healthy weight loss. Try getting unflavored Protein powder and mixing with broth or other liquids. Good luck and Congrats!

Be careful with the Protein Bars - most have alot of carbs. Try Protein rich foods instead.

That's an incredible loss in a week. Your body needs time to adjust. Stay off the scale. Keep measurements - I bet you'll see a change there even if not on the scale. Congrats on a great loss!

This is so true. My mother struggles with her weight -- but her struggle is to keep enough on, she is kind of naturally unhealthily slim. Her physician ordered her to eat Protein Bars to help her gain and maintain her weight, and stop weight loss. So she eats a Protein Bar every day and it has stopped her weight loss. A few times she has dropped a few pounds (traveling or something) so she just adds another Protein bar into her daily regime and starts gaining like crazy.

Thank you so much! I have noticed my body changing so that's encouraging. I feel great just was not sure if it's normal or not to stall this close out from surgery.

All Protein bars are not created equal. You just have to read labels. Some bars are for weight gain, some are for building muscle mass, and some are Meal Replacements. Some are just glorified candy bars, but there are some really healthy ones, also. Remember to subtract grams of Fiber from carbohydrates to get "net carbs". It is entirely possible to be successful using protein bars to supplement a healthy diet. Some people just can't eat enough food to get all the protein necessary. Do your homework and find what works for you. Your NUT should be able to help as well.

Hi!

I had my surgery on july 5th and have lost 28lbs. Currently I am at four wks post op and at a stall for the last week. Hoping it doesnt last too long.

As far as a multi-Vitamin.... I have found vitamints and I really like them. I am sensitive to tastes smells etc so I tried many Vitamins until I found these. Centrum makes them and they taste just like a mint! Worth a try! Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
