What's the last thing you said to your surgeon just before your LB procedure?!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just thought it would be interesting to read what the last thing you said before being wheeled into surgery?

Or,

the last thing he said to me was that the mask the anesthesiologist was putting on my mouth smells like shower curtain. I don't think I said anything to him ... too nervous.

When the OR nurses came to wheel me to the OR, my eyes started to well up. I wasn't sad or scared. As they wheeled me away from my bf and my mom I just got emotional I guess. By the time I got into the OR I was crying. The nurses wiped my tears and said "everything is going to be ok" and next thing I know I was out.

The anesthesiologist probably took one look at me and was like, "oh crap, we got a crybaby...let's put her down fast!"...I don't blame him!!!

Oh, after surgery my mom and bf told me I kept asking them, the nurses and the doctor "did you guys do it (perform surgery) yet???", "is my liver ok? (I wasn't ordered to go on a pre-op diet and was afraid my liver was too fat for surgery because I was on a farewell to food tour for a couple weeks prior to my surgery date) and "did everything inside look normal? (I have never had surgery so I didn't know if my insides looked umm normal)".

I said, "Cozumel."

The resident surgeon said, " I've never been there."

I replied, "Me either."

The last thing I remember as the wheels started to roll to the OR.

crazy!

The last thing "Make sure I wake up."

The first thing "Was my liver small enough?" (He snickered at that one because I was still half unconsious!)

The surgeon said something like "okay mary we're going to put this mask on you, breathe deeply" or something... and I waved and said "bye!!" and she laughed and said "bye!".... love those relaxation drugs they put you on right before surgery

When I woke up, I tried asking if they had to convert to open.. or if I woke up during surgery, but noone answered me... Maybe I just thought I asked, or they're used to dealing with drugged up ppl lol. Oh I also said "i love anasthesia"...

I don't remember what I said, but I remember what he said just before I went into the o.r. He came into the room where they were prepping me and he was at the foot end of the stretcher. He held both of my feet and said "I'll take good care of you." That was comforting.

The doctor wasn't in the room when I was put under, and I didn't get to see him before hand either, he was behind schedual. However the nurse and anesthesiologist were there. I handed the anesthesiologist a picture of my daughter (4 at the time) and told him that was why I had to wake up. He said he was going to make me fly, and I was out. I remember hearing them counting the instuments as I nodded off. ~Mandy

The last thing I remember saying or doing was when they were about to give me the medicine to make me go to sleep in my iv, I asked how long would it take to make me go to sleep. The nurse told me about 30 seconds. I responded yea right. About 20 seconds later, I remember cranking up laughing because sure enough I was started to feel silly. Than I think I remember them wrapping warm towels around my arms?

The last thing I said was to my anesthesiologist. He asked me what I did for a living. That's the last thing I remember telling him. I don't recall ever seeing the surgeon in the OR. He did come in while I was waiting before surgery and that's a blurr now.

My anesthesiologist was absolutely the BEST! He worked with Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey for years before Dr. Sanchez died. He had such amazing sense of humor & was super nice. He said I would start to feel a wonderful peaceful sleep & then he cracked me up saying lots of people asked him for what he was injecting in the IV "To Go" because it was such wonderful stuff. My surgeon said to pretend I was on a hammock in Cancun. I was told right after the surgery that in the OR I asked if they were ready to start the surgery & they said "We're done". Wonderful group of folks I had working on me!!

I said "Damn it's cold in here", and told the Doc "This cold definitely dosn't help on the 'Shrinkage' front. Make sure the nurses don't peek" Last thing I heard was an operating room full of laughter.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
