My date is 8/31. I was fine up until today . Maybe because it's August who knows . I can't stop thinking about it and being scared . I can't even sleep tonight. I really think I need Xanax or something . If this continues I'm going to be a hot mess the day of surgery. I keep thinking am I ready , how can I not be I have prepared for this since February. How do I make this feeling go away .

Good, you should be. You are permanently altering your body. But you could also be scared about the dangers of being obese and how that will kill you early, not to mention the embarrassment and not living your life as fully and abundantly as you could smaller.

When I got nervous, I read this section: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/195065-you-know-you-lost-weight-when/

Made me smile and remember why I was doing this.

Write down your questions and concerns, and talk them over with your doctor. Also, make a list of the reasons you are wanting to do this surgery. Even if you're still scared (goodness knows I was!), you want to feel comfortable with your choice.

I honestly didn't fully relax until I woke up after surgery. Once I was awake, I knew I could handle this! I find anaesthesia very scary.

Just had the surgery yesterday @ 1:00. I am doing good. I was in pain in recovery but the worked very hard and were successful with my pain control.

I am sure where you are having your surgery that the doctors and nurses will be as wonderful about keeping you comfortable.

Ice chips are my best friend right now!!! Never thought I would be so excited about ice chips. My new tummy is handling cold ice/water very well right now. I tried some crystal light but it dried out my mouth and throat horribly. They brought me some broth...very salty. I am going to try Jello for Breakfast and see how it goes. I will be released in a few hours so I only have to stay 1 night in the hospital. I am very thankful for that!

Hang in there and remember the reasons why you decided to do this. I am only about 13 1/2 hours out and I am thankful I had it done. Now on to healing!

There are indeed some risks, but there are also risks, likely greater risks, of staying overweight - that was my reckoning, is that you're actually taking the safer path overall. One thing that could help to calm nerves and is good for you too, is a daily walk. Start small and slowly work your way up If it's a hot day, taking them at like 6-7am when it's still cool. This is something you'll be doing after surgery as well, so it doesn't hurt to start early, and multiple clinical trials have shown the mood benefits of walking.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
