Clothes shopping before surgery

Recommended Posts

I have a gap/old navy Visa where for every dollar I spend (everywhere), I get rewards points for those stores. I had $60 in rewards expiring a few days ago so I went out and bought some XL stuff (I'm XXL/size 22 now). Didn't go crazy but it's fun to have a few new things - that I didn't have to pay for! - that I can size down into soon. (My surgery is in 5 days.)

When I had surgery, I was wearing a size 28 pant. I bought a pair of size 14 jeans right after surgery just for inspiration. They looked so tiny and I wasn't sure I'd ever get that small. I'd try them on occasionally. At first I could only get them on up to my knees but they slowly were able to get on more and more. It was a pretty awesome feeling the day I tried them on and they fit! Now they are getting loose and I'm able to wear a size 10! I wouldn't buy a bunch on small clothes, but a few pieces can really help to inspire you!

My goal was also a size 10... I am currently a size 6. I would be extra pissed if I bought a bunch of clothes that I could no longer fit. I personally wore clothes until they were literally falling off of me then I would go to Good Will and buy a pair or 2 of jeans that fit. If I had an event to go to that required me to look nice, I would buy something from the mall. When my weight loss seemed to stabilize/I didn't want to get any smaller is when I went out and actually started shopping.

Maxi skirts and dresses are my best friends right now. I am not investing in clothes just yet until I have to. I am going to soon have to buy a smaller bra ( did not see that coming but I will take it.)

@KristeLe and @"theantichick" chuckles about the uniboob. I just had to order new sports bras for workouts (a size smaller .) the uniboob is terrible in a bra to big.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
