Hi all,

I'm from Canada, and I'm going to Puerto Vallarta in October (VSG with Dr.Joya). I would like to take a month off and cover the first 2 weeks with PTO. I am planning on letting work know 30 days in advance, and filing STD paperwork after the surgery.

I have coverage with Great West, and I'm wondering if anybody has had experience with GWL? Or with having a surgeon in Mexico? ????

I did not go to Mexico but I had the short term disability with the same company. I had to use two weeks of PTO also and then it kicked in.

I ended up going back early after my WLS but after my hysterectomy 11 months ago it did go into the STD, and they were great through the whole process, and my surgery was done rather urgently. I hope your experience is just as smooth.

I just wanted to update this, incase somebody ever comes across it in a search. I brought my GWL paperwork with me to have it filled out. Dr. Joya also included a description of the surgery, pics of the surgery, and an itemized bill. My STD was approved for 4 weeks. I will also be submitting this paperwork for a partial refund from provincial healthcare. :1311_thumbsup_tone2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
