Need Advice/Help Please

Recommended Posts

Hi -

I've posted something like this before, but did not get many responses. I was sleeved exactly two weeks ago (7/18). I have not been able to even get a bite of food, sip of Protein Shake, etc. in for DAYS. I'm talking like, maybe I've consumed 200 calories over a 6-8 day span. I went to my surgeon on Thursday and he seemed like he barely cared. He was just excited that I lost weight (surgery weight was 230 and my weight on Thursday was 215) and that my incision (I had a single incision through my belly button) looked good. He told me to just keep trying on the food. I feel like this is not normal. I throw up bile almost every day and I can't stand the sight of food, let alone smell it. I should add though that I have always been a very queasy person and I do throw up easily from being "grossed out", but I just need to find out if anyone else is dealing with this, or has dealt with it. I have zero energy and I try my best to walk but it is hard when my body is running on fumes. The only thing I have been able to do is drink Water all day.

Please help!!

I wish I had experiences to share with you, but I don't. I haven't been sleeved yet. Have you asked your Dr for a prescription for Zofran, to help with the nausea? This might help you develop an appetite. I'm so sorry you are going through this. My thoughts are with you.

Thank you for the support. Yes I am on anti-nausea medication, but unfortunately it hasn't helped.

Has your doc tried different nausea meds? Zofran can be a wonder drug, but it doesn't work for everyone. Some respond better to phenergan or some of the older anti-nausea drugs. I haven't had the surgery yet, but my surgeon told me that while some nausea with occasional vomiting is to be expected (hence the prescription for the nausea meds) but regularly vomiting is not. Unfortunately sometimes we have to advocate for our own health with our docs. I would call and talk to a nurse or someone in his office beyond the receptionist and insist on not continuing to wait.

This doesn't seem normal. You are not getting in enough food. This can be dangerous. If he doesn't care, find someone who does. You need to find a way to get food in. Please find another doctor who can help you.

My surgeon and hid staff beat it into my head before surgery: Vomiting is NOT NORMAL and I need to come in to see him if I am.

I'm on Zofran for nausea. I only threw up once, I think from drinking too fast on the 3rd day.

You need to be assertive. This is NOT okay. If your surgeon won't help, find one who will.

I'm so, so sorry.

Have u tried taking any chewable multi Vitamins and also have u tried clear broths with low sodium? Just some suggestions that is easy for your body to digest, you maybe feeling so nausea because your body is weak, and needs to refuel with nutrition like a Multivitamin and low acidic foods that are easy on the stomach.

I bought GENEPRO powdered Protein on Amazon. It has saved me! I put 2 scoops in a 2 cup measuring cup & one crystal lite pink lemonade (for a 16 oz bottle of water). I keep that in the fridge & sip on it all day. I get 60 G Protein that way. You have to find what you can tolerate. I love hot Tomato juice so I drink 1/2 cup & feel like I'm cheating. I can't stand most of the Protein shakes so I don't drink them. If you can tolerate any kind of sugar-free drink, you can put the powder protein in it. Gatorade will give you electrolytes. Put the protein in that & sip on an oz every 15 min. I had my sleeve done on July 21. I developed a nasty abscess behind my main incision so I've been dealing with that. I ended up back in the hosp for 4 days. My point is that this is just a short period of time & you can do this! It's all worth it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
