I've had a few surgeries over the years........the days after each were sorta cruddy.

It's to be expected.

They were to repair torn or broken parts.

The WLS has more cerebral implications, though. Nothing physically was broken.....just how I chose to use it. It took a while to get my mind wrapped around the changes I'd just made and that a better life awaited me if I chose to support my surgeons efforts. The temporary aggravation of more liquid diet didn't help my spirits, but I knew it was just a short phase while my new stomach healed.

Fast forward a few weeks and my outlook was extremely positive. It's remained that way, too.

This surgery has deeper commitment of action and effort for me than a knee repair or some other routine patch up of an injury. This particular surgery just prolonged my life and improved the quality of it if I so chose to follow the simple instructions.

It gets better folks.

The first week or two are simply that.....a first week or two where you are healing.

Deep breaths and relax. You'll feel spectacular very soon.

I am only 10 days post op and have had serious buyers remorse. I am not doing the whole full liquid stage well. I hate sugar free anything, I get headaches from artificial sweetners. It doesn't help that my kids and husband are savoring things like pizza and cheese and crackers and anything else I cannot eat. I am sure this will pass ( at least I hope so) and I will be able to eat again, but I do not like this phase.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
