Elizabethb36 7 Posted August 1, 2016 Hello my name is Elizabeth, New to this and full of questions.I had my RNY bypass surgery on 7/14/16. Started on the eggs and some other soft foods on Friday. I'm seeming to have a heck of a time getting 64ounces of Fluid in a day. I'm also having episodes of hunger couple hours after I eat.I'm not sure if its because I'm not really eating much solid or what the issue is. I'm also having episodes of depression and mood swings are these things normal? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using the BariatricPal App
catwoman7 11,220 Posted August 1, 2016 I didn't have the depression and mood swings, but a lot of people do. It may be hormonal - estrogen is stored in fat, so it's released when your body starts losing fat. as for hunger, most people lose their sense of hunger for several months. Are you on a PPI? It could just be acid.

catwoman7 11,220 Posted August 1, 2016 Protein pump inhibitor - it's a type of antacid. Prilosec is a common one - or Protonix. A lot of surgeons prescribe them for the first few months after surgery

James Marusek 5,244 Posted August 1, 2016 I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. According to my plan from my surgeon's office, I was restricted to full liquids for the first 4 weeks, then pureed foods for the next four and only at week 9 did I transition to solids. Whatever the plan is that you are following there is no reason why you might take a slower approach. Your stomach needs time to heal. @@catwoman7 mentioned Protein pump inhibitor - it's a type of antacid. Prilosec is an over the counter (OTC) drug. It is normally used for acid reflux. The prescription name for this drug is Omeprazole. After surgery, my doctor prescribed omeprazole to me for a year to better allow my new stomach to heal. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes.
