Hey Holly... Great idea for doing this thread. I was thinking about doing it, but your first thread "Let's get this party started" is getting pretty active and I thought we could direct them over to the "TENacious TENS" thread from there. But what the heck, if we can get them there with help from this one that's all the better....

BTW, my real name is Bobbie.... and my oldest grandaughter's name is Holly...

Hi Bobbie! Yeah, I noticed the other thread is more active too. That's okay, once the party is officially "started" (in October!) then all the threads will fill up nicely! So my visit with the dietitian was OK, but I didn't learn anything that I hadn't already learned HERE on the boards! I see the exercise people in another week, to get set up for a 4-week pre-op exercise plan at the gym. My private pay plan includes 16 weeks paid at a gym across the street from the hospital where I'll have surgery (and I'm also a nurse there.) I feel too fat and tired to exercise, so I need the accountability and the "cheerleading" too! The gym reports to my doctor about how often I go, and I have to log in so many hours there or surgery is postponed! Are you just "coasting" and waiting for things to start happening, or what -- what's going on in your journey?

Holly... Boy do I hear ya on the exercise.. I tell myself everyday that I'm going to do some walking and I only get in about 2100-3500 steps according to my pedometer, when I should be getting in 10,000 or more.. Right now I am more or less coasting until the 1st of October when I start my liquid diet...

My DH and I are retired and spending the summer out here in the San Francisco, California area. We went touring last Wednesday and I could hardly walk anywhere, we kept having to stop so I could rest. When we got home that night I told myself that I would drink a couple of Protein shakes every day and walk, walk, walk.... Well the first day was good, but since then I've been a little lax... My hips and feet get to hurting so bad and on good days I can only walk about the length of a football field and back and then I'm done... That is so pitiful especially when I was very athletic in school and in my young adult years I was a dancer... Does walking or exercise affect your hips and such like mine do? I am wondering if it is directly related to my weight or if there is another underlying problem..

That is good that the visit to your dietitian went well even though you already knew what she said... This is the greatest site to learn from, plus have the most wonderful support system around... I will be having my consultation with the dietitian the end of September.. I have already had my phone consult with my Dr, so I pretty much am set as far as what he wants me to do prior to surgery and that is just do the liquid diet 10 days before my surgery day...

I sure am glad that I don't have to do a 4 week pre-op exercise program. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to make it... They would have to start off very gently with me.... I am very angry with myself for getting so out of shape and so much overweight... :huggie: But I am sooooo happy I am getting the band.... :)

Keep me posted on how your exercise program is working....

Thanks. Barb

October 2nd is the big day for me! Dr Gonzales in Tijuana. I'm a little nervous and a lot excited! Guess I'll be starting my liquid diet in about 3 weeks. I'm fighting the urge to have one last 3 week affair with all the things I love to eat, but I guess the sooner I start learning to behave, the easier it will be in the long run!

Happy to be part of this group!!

Jill

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
