:D I was banded on 8/12/03 at Hamilton Medical Center Dalton Ga. and things couldn't have gone better. There was minimal discomfort and I believe the gas has been the worst of it.

I could eat Jello first day and liquids. Day 4 I was mobile as in driving. I have had many concerns but they have been whether I have been to pushy with eating solid foods which go down fine now after 8 days. I was 276 at 5ft7 and I truely believe this band will help many people includung me.

On insurance. Don't give up. Obesity is a chronic desease and with DR. approval and a lot of persistance they will come through. I have Accordia and Blue Cross I had no problem . My cost was 2960.00

Anxieties before were do I really have to resort to this. Yes I did even at 34 yrs. old ,Why risk surgery for this? The weights gonna get ya slowly thats why. I haven't beat it in all these years so yeah its time.

Afterwards it was is this going to worrk or what I have I done wrong.Am i suppose to feel this way. I believe this band is pretty tough and if placed correct would be hard to hurt it.

Some thoughts.

Hi and welcome to the land of the band. Um what guide to food etc did your doc give you? I personally think that 8 days is way to early to be eating solid foods. I would speak to your doc again and find out what he/she wants you to do.

Some docs advice is different but the majority recommend at least 1 week of liquids, then mushy and then solid foods. And this time can go anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 weeks.

good luck

what types of foods did you eat? did you PB or vomit? pain or pressure?

i would revert to the post op diet immediatly the pressure of solid foods on your band can cause it to slip. please be careful! you just had surgery and need to heal. just because you can doesnt mean you should! just try to tell yourself-- soon you can eat the variety.

be creative with the Soups. put them in the blender. add cheese to the soup(s) it gives it a little more stick to the ribs kinda feeling.

i was banded 8-18 and today i had a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for lunch and a fat free puddin for desert. annnnd i'm full. i also eat cream of chicken Soup mostly and add cheese. i cant wait to try a scrambled egg this weekend!!!!!

good luck!

michelle!

Bobby, I had to laugh at your post - do you think 34 is old? In that case I shouldn't have bothered to have the surgery - they should have retired me! I am 42 and had another baby last year at 41 and feel as young as I did when I was 20. I had my surgery on 29 July and have lost 23lbs already and now I feel 19 and a half.

I hope you feel younger soon - it is so important!

Glenda

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
