Nymea 87 Posted August 6, 2016 I'm just a few days out myself, and I have chosen to be pretty open about it, mostly because I didn't want to act ashamed of having the surgery. I guess I wanted to jump the gun and be proud before anyone could really shame me. That's just my method though. I can see why telling fewer people can be better. One thing that bugs me is people telling me not to have the surgery or telling me about people they know who have had the surgery and "failed." Does anyone else get these kinds of comments? How do you handle them? That is one fear I have ... that telling people might have them watching and waiting to see if I fail. Especially those who are overweight themselves and made negative remarks previously about WLS. I figure if I have already lost weight and they ask me about it they can't watch for failure since I would have already succeeded.
bhappychic 0 Posted August 6, 2016 When people mention how much weight I've lost, I thank them and tell them it's been really hard work. It is! This is not easy, it's a commitment. Sent from my SM-G386T using the BariatricPal App
D'Sleeved 62 Posted August 7, 2016 The only people that knows about my surgery date is my husband and my younger children that's living under my roof... My oldest had ask me last month "what is this new Facebook page I have made? "(The new Facebook ad had popped up in her adding new friends) I did tell her; I was going through the process of getting approved for VGS and she told me; that she'll be here for you me and she'll help me out... She never brought it up again nor have I. I still haven't told my mom, sisters, nor my brothers... I didn't want to hear any negative feedback... reeniemay 64 Posted August 7, 2016 I told everybody I was having surgery for a hernia and if anyone asks about the weight loss I'm just going to tell them my blood work from the pre op showed me very alarming information and made a change in lifestyle. No one needs to know if I don't want them to. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
