Post surgery nutrition appts

Recommended Posts

My insurance requires I do 6 months nutrition counseling to be able to seek insurance approval. No problem. My concern is with the major changes, will they also have post surgery appts required as well?

My surgery is taking place at Cleveland Clinic Florida. They require post-op appointments at 2 weeks; 2 months; 6 months; and 1 year. I'd imagine I'll be paying a co-pay for these visits. Lab work will be required for each. Included in my surgery fee is also a visit a month with the nutritionist. I'm not sure how this works yet, my surgery is still a week away. They also want me to be visiting my primary. (assume that is really optional unless something is wrong). They also offer monthly support groups (I do not believe there is even a co-pay for these.

Once your insurance pays for the surgery that is the biggest cost. I don't think they are going to hold back payment for "post-op" appointments.

All those co-pays do add up thats for sure. I had to go through a lot of testing, some invasive and expensive before getting approval from the surgeon (not insurance). Insurance approval seemed pretty easy actually.

But IMHO, I think going to your post-op appointments are important as well as key to your success.

Not sure about your insurance, but with mine,if the appts are for follow up visits for the same thing,i only had to pay 1 co-payment for post op visits, which was the initial, also the pre-op appzs I only had to pay 1 office visit, you may want to check with your insurance or definitely check your claims being submitted.they will have listed whats your portion if any for

the visits

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
