Only started reading these forums for a few days. I'm not sure if they help, or freak me out. Some of the stories are simply rough. It seems most have bearable to fairly mild post op experiences, but some are hard to read. I'll be praying for those. Do many have second thoughts a few days before the date? Ugh. My wife is a little nervous for me.

Well surgery is scheduled for the first one this coming Monday morning. Dr only required one week Optifast 800 liquid diet pre-op. Just a bit nervous. My Pastor and a few friends from Church will be there to give a little comfort and Pray with me before the surgery.

Prior to starting the liquid diet, Weighed 366lbs. Don't know what I may have lost this week.

I'm not one to post on forums, but maybe some support and encouragement will help the nerves.

Hello and welcome! I'm a 45 year old male, almost 2 years post op, and I can tell you it is all totally worth it. I was scared too. I thought life would never be the same, and I was right! Everything is better. I am no longer controlled by food. I am no longer afraid to try new things. I enjoy so many more things than I used to. Yes, my diet is boring now. Who cares? There's more to life than pizza and beer! I won't lie, there were rough spots along the way, but they are a distant memory. No worries. You have got this!

Started reading the posts a few days before mine as well and it scared me. But it also helped me to know what to expect.

I had my surgery Tuesday 7/26 and I'm 5 days post op, I can tell you it's not easy. Some incisions will hurt more than others and gas pain is horrible.

But you will be ok!

My incisions were not painful, but I had a difficult time the first week with gas pains and nausea. Each day was better. Now 4 years out and every bit of discomfort worthwhile. It is not easy, especially in the beginning but form good habits early and they will stay with you.

I'm 8 days post op and I understand your nervousness. I was nervous. I think most of us were. It's a major change and a major operation. But I guess I was one of the lucky ones who really has had very little pain associated with this procedure. Discomfort yes. But nothing that a couple of Advil hasn't handled after the first 3 days. I haven't even taken the liquid Tylenol with Codeine since day 3. I had my surgery on a Friday and went back to work on Tuesday. And I had a lapband removed at the same time I had the sleeve done. I have a desk job so it's not like I'm carting around bales of hay or anything. I get tired at the end of the day and grab some Soup and hit the sack shortly after I get home, but everyday has gotten better and better. Keep your eye on the prize. It sounds like you have a great support system and that's just as important as anything else. Good luck tomorrow!

Good luck! I'm having surgery on 24 August and am trying not to get too alarmed about the process but reading all the 'not so great' experiences has given me more realistic expectations about the future. There may be pain, there may not; I might be able to eat relatively normally in a few weeks, I may not. Whatever happens I'll be better prepared for it. Hope all goes smoothly for you - keep us posted. ????

Take everything one step at a time. I had a lapband to sleeve conversion surgery on July 8th, and it's hard to believe I'm already 3 weeks out.

You're taking the first step to bettering yourself, and these forums are excellent support groups because we have similar experiences, and lots of empathy.

Had my sleeve last wednesday came home the next day. Doing well each day comes with challenges. Drink..drink..drink. Some pain by the larger incision. Total of 5 small incisions. The small ones each have 2 staples..the larger one has 5. Get staples out Thursday. Each day gets a little better. A bit hard for me getting out of bed by myself without pulling too much. Keeping the eye on the prize of a better healthier life. Good luck to all of you!!!

Thinking about you! I woke up with gas pain and it scared me, because it was so bad I was afraid something was wrong. After walking the floor with my nurse, I started burping and felt so much better. Walk, walk, walk... it's worth it. :)

So, I'm through the surgery. Got to my room at 11:00am. Waking up after surgery was tough. I had severe nausea. They got that under control, and now, I feel very good. No gas pain, very mild pain at the ports in my stomach. Able to get my Water in (4oz) an hr, no problem. What's crazy, is I feel so good compared to what I expected, it's disconcerting. They say the "tap blocks" are basically making the ports, for the most part, numb.

Pastors from my church prayed with me and the surgeon prior to the procedure. My Dr prayed over me as well, how cool.

So far, all is great. One day at a time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
