After soft foods... what to eat?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning ahead for meals. I leave the soft foods stage on Aug 7. My nut said at that point I can whatever I want provided I'm focusing on protein/nutrients and limiting carbs (no fruit until 3 months). Those of you who are eating regularly, do you eat crispy foods? One of my favorite things to eat is carrot sticks, raw bell peppers, etc with hummus. I can up the Protein in hummus pretty easily, but is it ok to eat it with raw veggies? The surgeon said that it's a trial-and-error process, some people do well with uncooked veggies and some don't.

No fruits, really? Strange! I was having this weeks ago (I'm 7 weeks post-op). It really baffles me how different the requirements are across surgeons.

I haven't had any raw vegetables yet, except spinach and leafy ones. I think mine requires cooking them all until 8-9 weeks out. But I'd suggest taking tiny bites, and chewing it up real well before swallowing. Then wait a minute or two, and try again. Ease into it.

Maybe you can partially cook the carrot sticks, just to soften them up... peppers (yick those are my kryptonite lol) are probably soft enough. I did hummus a lot (still do).. but I just have it on it's own or with some cottage cheese.. I haven't really gone back to raw veggies yet. Maybe seedless cucumbers-- now I might have to get some of those tomorrow to go with my hummus! :)

I don't think I had fruits until 3 months out either. As far as what else to eat-- just be aware that Proteins that you easily tolerated pre-surgery might not be tolerated as easily now... so ease into anything. I had surgery in April and still have trouble with beef.. though just today at a big cookout I was able to eat a 1/2 of a hamburger patty (no bun, and I just put mustard and pickles on it).. I can handle it in chili, because I think it's a moisture issue, so all of the "sauce" makes chili easier than a burger or steak anyway. I haven't had any issues with chicken, turkey, fish or shrimp. I did have a lot of trouble with tuna for a while-- which was really bumming me out, because it's my most favorite go-to food and always has been... now I'm thinking it might be the mayo more than the tuna itself. Pork I have always had trouble processing, ever since having my gallbladder out, so I'm not even really going there yet.

I just found these cheese crisp things at Walmart in the produce section the other day-- I haven't tried them yet, but you would use them like you would croutons, or when you need some crispy texture.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
