I haven't gotten past reading and researching. I know my insurance covers but I don't know anything else. I'm hoping my hubs and I can attend a seminar, in the next couple of weeks. He has just gotten on board. I don't have any comorbidities that I know of, but I suspect I might have sleep apnea. I've not been tested. I am trying to start a high Protein low carb lifestyle this week. Just to start mentally preparing myself for the low carbs after surgery. My BMI is 66 so I'm sure I will qualify, I'm just not sure of what hoops I will have to go through. I was seeing a health coach at work, and I lost 30 lbs, and have maintained that for about a year, but I stalled a year ago, and have just really had trouble fighting through it. I know the sleeve won't be a one shot fix all, but I just no longer have the willpower to try and fight this on my own anymore. I know having that tool will help me be so much more successful.

I ❤️ researching everything. Lol. I was researching too and I kept coming across posts from this site so I decided to join. I already asked my doctor for the referral. I go to orientation in 10 days. I can't wait to get started. I have never been able to get to a healthy weight as an adult. I've done so many pills, diets...I'm ready to get to a healthy weight that I can maintain.

I say take the plunge. What's the worst that could happen?

I'm just starting out as well. I have my psych eval on 8/30, and also have to do 6 mos of MSWL, which will likely put my surgery in March or April. As much as I'd like to get on with it, I'm grateful for the time to prepare myself (and my husband!) for all of the changes.

Hey!

I'm pretty new on this journey as well. I had my first appointment back in the middle of July, and my insurance requires 4 months of visits for nutrition and exercise, so I have until about October before the requirements are finished. I still have to do the psych evaluation for surgery, but I am excited to be beginning! =]

Best of luck to all of you lovely people. ^^

I'm glad to see there are so many of us just starting out. I am in month 3 of my 6 month supervised diet and when I met with the psychiatrist last week she said I would be looking at a November surgery date. The time is flying by so quickly.

In the beginning it felt like time was going backwards but now that it's August I feel like November is right around the corner. My surgeons office says you cannot gain weight during the supervised diet and I gain three pounds in July so now it's a mad dash to get it off before my next appointment.

Me TOO! I'm also in Ohio and Psych eval and nutrition meeting on 8/30 in Dayton.

Psych will be 3 hours long and nutrition 1 hour.

Hope my hubs can find something to do besides sit in the waiting room for 4 hours. We also drive 2 hours each way for Dr. appts.

Was told my surgery probably will be late Feb or March..

@@KaiserKid I am also waiting to see what is needed from BCBS of MA. I spoke with them over the phone and they said as long as it is a complete program including psychologist, NUT and surgeon that I would not need to have six months of appointments. Fingers crossed. I really think waiting is the hardest part!

Glad to see there's so many of us on this end!

I had my 1st visit with the surgeon on 7/11. I've already had my 1st NUT visit and the program required visit with an exercise physiologist. I have a busy August with my psych eval, 2nd NUT visit, Cardiologist appointment and appointment with the vascular surgeon.

I'm not sure how many NUT visits I'll need to do. Anthem requires 6 months of a documented weight loss regimen, but it doesn't specify medically supervised. I have a binder from my attempt at losing last year where I documented daily calories, steps, weight, etc. for 8 months. My program coordinator asked for a copy of it to include when they submit my request in Sept after my 3rd (program required) NUT visit. If they accept it, I hope to have surgery in Oct or Nov. If they deny me, I'll have to wait until Jan. or Feb.

I feel like I'm in limbo!!

Glad to see another Mass person! Yes when I called BCBS they told me the same thing. I hear they are "easy" to work with - not sure what that means though!

Where are you thinking of going for your surgery? I'm going through MGH if everything works out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
