Is Sugar free chocolates Ok for Pre-op????

Recommended Posts

I know this might be a really syupid question, but I am really needing to know. My husband bought me a few pieces of Sugar Free Chocolates, My surgery is Sep 6th and I have been on my pre-op diet for 6 days now (protein shake Breakfast and lunch, Lean Cuisine for dinner) anyways, my question is, would I be able to have at least one of these chocolates now or do I have to wait till after my surgery? I just keep thinking that it will be 4-5 weeks after surgery before I would even be able to try and eat them, UGHHHH Hopefully someone can help me out!:omg: If it is a definate no no, I will not but sincew it was sugar free I thought I would ask:nervous

The biggest issues with tthe pre-op diet is clearing the liver of fat. While they may be "sugar free" (though they are full of sugar alcohols which in many people increase their, ummmmm, stooling), I would doubt they are fat free. Read the saturated fat content and make your decision based on that. Are you talking a few pieces meaning one of those little bags with about five small pieces in it, or are you talking a few pieces meaning a few whole candy bars?

Yeah...I agree. If it's just one little piece and you really think you can stop at that then it probably won't hurt but I'd probably just forget it. Those Sugar Free Chocolates never taste that great to me and give me terrible stomach pains and "other" issues!

Yeah, it was just one small piece of chocolate that was from a candy store, It was in bulk so I don't know the fat content. But, I agree, it is probally better to not go down that path for fear of wanting more!:paranoid Will I be able to eat it after my surgery and if so, how long after?

Thanks for the reply, it has been helpful!:clap2:

You poor thing...that piece of chocolate is taunting you, isn't it! If you really want it then perhaps you could just go ahead and have it. Depriving yourself too long can backfire into a major boo-boo. As far as post-op...it depends on your doctor. Some of us were allowed to eat regular foods after one to two weeks while others had to stay on a liquid diet for a month post-op. So, it all depends on what your doctor says about when you could have that chocolate post-op.

Good luck and whatever you decide to do I hope you get to truly enjoy it! Chocolate is yummy...even if it's sugar free!!

Have you ever had this particular sugar free chocolate before?

I ask because I have had a severe reaction to the sorbitol and other sweeteners they use. I have severe stomach cramps and the worst diarrhea of my entire life. With your surgery so close, I wouldnt risk it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
