Anyone who has been following my story will know that I have been quite ill following my vsg on May 31st.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone here on BP for your prayers, advice and encouragement.

As I am very isolated through illness and disabilities, this forum has been a source of companionship, laughter, hope and friendship.

Because I am often awake all through the night, this place helps to quell the loneliness and sadness that being in pain and feeling bereft can bring in the early hours.

I know that my posts have been sad, upsetting ones.

I just want you all to know that those don't represent me as a person. I am normally a cheerful, happy Christian Grandma!

My path in these past 9 weeks have been extremely difficult and challenging but I am hopeful for a full recovery in time for my body and then peace in my spirit.

You all know that I think that a vsg was the wrong decision for me, but I take full responsibility for that decision. Quite frankly, it was laziness that seduced me. I could have tried harder to diet and exercise. Fibromyalgia and CFS is no excuse.

My greedy nature with food meant that Portion Control eluded me. If I couldn't have the whole tub of ice cream, don't offer me a scoop. One slice of pizza? lol A whole pizza or nothing! Food was my life, my comfort, my existence.

Now it's not. This surgery means that my portions are definitely controlled. I can no longer use food for comfort and entertainment.

I am forever altered in body and in mind. And I am striving to become at peace with that decision with God's help.

But you all are my strength, my companionship on the journey, my kin in WLS.

Thank you all and God bless!

Gina x

It is down to 3 cm now, thanks for asking. Have a cyst on my kidney that now needs treating, no decision about the gallbladder yet but having a colonoscopy on Thursday for the severe abdominal cramps (not sure how that will help as the cramps are where my stomach meets my small intestine) and bleeding. So still many more weeks of recovery for me !

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
