Acid reflux after a fill

Recommended Posts

I just got a 0.5cc fill on Wednesday. My doc says liquids for a couple days and I have but I've had a lot of heartburn and reflux. Why does having a tighter band cause this?

I had acid reflux so bad after a fill that I couldn't eat anything or drink. I had to go get the fill out. The bad thing about that is they charge you for the fill. My band did not like me. Good luck

I think I'm gonna call on Monday. It just seems to get tighter and tighter. I had my last fill in November and could eat pretty much anything. It amazes me the difference 0.5 cc makes.

Certainly call if the problem doesn't resolve itself.

Despite the Water you were given at your adjustment appointment going down well, it's not all that unusual for things to change soon after. The action of the band can change any time. Someone might have a band that is a perfect work partner and, then, after months, not so much; it might lose efficacy or feel too tight.

If you do have some of the new .5cc removed on Monday, be aware that, down the road, you'll need it back. You may need more than that. Bands had a long life of being known as fickle bittches (double "T" to get past the censors).

I hope you don't, but if you ever have this experience again, don't wait to call the office. The main thing is your comfort and ability to nourish and hydrate normally. I'll add, though, that my own practice won't charge for another adjustment if a patient goes back in on the same day or the next. After that, a new change will be billed.

I was waiting to see if it relaxes some. I try not to freak out as long as I can drink. With other fills it seemed to relax after a few days. I can still drink water/protein drinks/Gatorade with no problem. I'm just a little concerned about the acid reflux and heartburn. My doctor is only in office on mon and wed and in hospital the other days. I'm sure if it was emergent the other dr in the office could loosen it, but I would rather see my dr. I don't think my office charges for a follow up if it is related to a fill. It still amazes me the difference such a tiny amount of Fluid makes.

I had the same problem recently. I gave it a week, without any improvement. I went back in and had the fill removed and am feeling much better. I was not charged.

I am going through same thing right now actually once I past 5cc my acid reflux starts up to but I don't think I am tight at all was with 5 1/2 for more them 6 months before my issues started. I am at 4cc and I have went from 161 to 200 pounds makes me man no restrictions. So I am going today at 3pm to see what we can do if I can get meds and go back to 5cc was working well until the acid reflux situation.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
