GeeMarie 8 Posted July 29, 2016 I'm doing my surgery out of state and my paperwork all said to quit smoking (which I did) and that I would be tested for nicotine. I went to my pre-op appt and they never tested me. Do they do these tests at the surgery center the day of?? Suga Renique Reborn 115 Posted July 29, 2016 They probably will check the day of surgery - my surgeon told me that in one case he has been in the operating room and found out the patient was still smoking, he cancelled the surgery immediately! Can you imagine going that far and getting to that point just to end up denied? AGH!!
GeeMarie 8 Posted July 29, 2016 No I definitely can't. I figured. Mostly I feel like i deserve that negative result! It was friggin hard and I want someone to see it! Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
dallasloser 4 Posted October 2, 2016 My surgeon said he did the test, but he had to take our word for it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
jenmcd623 76 Posted October 2, 2016 My surgeon said that he does the test on anyone who said they were a smoker. Because i was a smoker and quit 15+ years ago, he did the test on me. He also did the test on my mom who was a smoker as well. We both had quit, but they don't take that for granted, you will not heal from this surgery if you are a smoker, and he said he has had to cancel surgery because some tests have come back positive.
