Hi all, I'm hoping some veterans can chime in. I'm a teacher and was sleeved July 12, things went well, very easy recovery. I go back Aug 1 for a week and a half of workshops, etc, and kids arrive Aug 17. I'm on soft foods now. Eating is a chore. I am seldom hungry, and I don't look forward to eating. I am vigilant about Protein and liquids and have my surgeon's goals every day since July 14. I'm really tired since I graduated to soft foods. I am easily fatigued until afternoon. I'm consuming 400-500 calories/day. I'm walking every day. I've never been compliant in my life! Before surgery I was definitely a morning person and very productive in the mornings but now I was to sleep in and do very little. How can I boost my energy level? Would changing my diet in some way help?

Meant to say that I've never been SO compliant in my life before.

My energy levels were low. My Dr gave me a B1 and B12 shot. After labwork I was told I currently have a severe thiamine (B1) Vitamin deficiency and to start 100mg of thiamine ASAP.

Let's just say, I'm feeling much better. That may not be your issue but may be worth having your labs checked and having a B12 injections. Oh I also take Gummy B12's.

Look into switching to the under the tongue B12s. B12 is much more effective when it's absorbed directly into the blood stream.

@@KristenLe, I take a Bariatric Multivitamin as well as a B12 supplement. Maybe I need a B1 as well?

My support team isn't concerned about calories right now. My surgeon doesn't want me to worry about calories for the first two months and to focus instead on Protein as well as adding in nutrients from veggies. At two months the nut will help me establish calorie goals.

I hit an energy slump close to 3 weeks out. Just when. Instructions said to begin adding a B12 and b100 complex daily, along with the Multivitamin aND Calcium I was already taking. I have more energy now at 5 weeks. Your nut should be able to guide you with supplements. Also, are you taking a Vitamin D? I've been taking 1000 icu daily and it makes a big difference in how I feel.

Are you taking Iron? If not try adding Iron to your supplements.

Also do you have sleep Apnea? You may need to adjust your titration level.

If you're hitting your Protein target I wouldn't worry about calories either.

I struggled with fatigue as well, adding the iron really helped. Ask your dr to do a Vitamin level blood test. It will let you know where you stand and what you're lacking. My iron was really low to the point of almost needing an infusion.

I added a B complex after looking at my blood work and it really makes a difference. Oddly my multivitamin had no Iron so when I reorder I will be sure to look for Iron. I take Biotin, B12, multi and now a B complex.

It's normal to feel tired the first 3 months especially while your body is still recovering.

This is a major surgery and still important to listen to your body and rest.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
