MinaDina 89 Posted July 29, 2016 My pre-op appointment is literally less than 24 hours before my surgery. I'm not sure what they will require. I've seen that some people are being asking to drink Citrate before to clean them out. Well considering how my pre-op is at 1230 and I won't get home till 2/3 I feel like that's a little too late if I'm going to be required to do it. I personally was planning to have a bottle over the weekend anyways before I start my 2 days of Clear Liquids. Do you guys think it'll matter if I do it over the weekend as opposed to doing it the day before?
WLSResources/ClothingExch 3,444 Posted July 29, 2016 If you are your own surgeon, follow your own counsel. If not, call your surgeon's office now so that you follow the surgeon's counsel in a timely manner.
mistycal 81 Posted July 29, 2016 My surgeon didn't require me to use any laxatives, I just had a 24 hour clear diet the day before surgery. So it really just depends on the surgeon...
Daenerys Targaryen 109 Posted July 29, 2016 I struggled with this same question last week before my bypass. My surgeon only required I do clear liquids the day before surgery and no laxative. I wanted to make sure I was cleaned out and not risking infection. However, I decided that I wanted to begin this journey following my surgeon's advice to the letter instead of doing my own thing. So I didn't drink the laxative and everything has been fine, no infection.
Djmohr 6,965 Posted July 29, 2016 For sure call your surgeon and get direction on this. You do not want to jeopardize your surgery date or your health. My surgeon required I use that nasty bottle of stuff and I am glad that I did because it was nearly 10 days before I went to the bathroom again. It's always like that for me post surgery. Haha....
