Hello everyone my name is Jonte and I am 3 yrs post op. My starting weight was 390 and my lowest weight was 250. I was slowly working my way down to my personal goal weight of 215 when I became pregnant with my second child. post-297254-14697953636942_thumb.jpg

Now six weeks post pregnancy I am getting back in gear to loss the 65 pounds to make it to my goal weight. Unfortunately I have moved away from Indiana were I had my surgery completed at St Vincent's in Carmel but the dieticians have been amazing with mailing and emailing me what I need as well as providing phone support. One of the best things about the gastric bypass is if your willing to put in the work you are able to see the results no matter how far out you are. So here's to my new journey and a big congratulations to those of you just beginning your journey. If you have questions please please please feel free to ask. I am an open book.

@@Mrs. Riddle

Congratulations on both your next steps and the birth of your child! I have to say, I do love your point about bypass and getting back on track.

I have talked to several people who lost their way and started again as if it was the day after surgery and were successful in losing their weight.

To your point you just have to be willing to work a little harder.

Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Congratulations on everyyhing!!! I am also a resident of Indiana and planning on having the gastric bypass surgery. I had my lapband removed and recovering from it now and in 3 months will be having the gastric bypass surgery. Did you have the gastric bypass or the sleeve? How long did it take you to rrecovwr from your gastric bypass surgery. I have taken 3 weeks off from wwork to recover from my bans removal as it worked for the 1st year but I began having complications afterwards. So the doctor recommended that it be removed. I am now waiting to have bariatric surgery. I am kind of nervous about it, but know it is best for me. I am also seeking a buddy or mentor to provide their experience with the bariatric surgery as I am going through the process alone.

Hey congratulations on your decision to have the gastric bypass done!!! I had the ryn-y done because of the amount of weight I needed to lose. I believe I took off 2 weeks from work but I also worked from home at that time and my supervisor was really supportive and worked with me. I would say that 3-4 weeks would have gotten me completely healed up and able to go in office to work. As long as you don't have any complications (I had one) the healing process is pretty simple.

Oh thanks so much for the information!!! The acronyms you used for the type of gastric bypass, please provide with a brief description. I know that there is the gastric bypass and the sleve, but wasn't certain of which one you were referring to that you had. Again, thanks so mu h for your reply, as it was so helpful.

I'm not sure where I should post this, but I ran across your post Mrs.Riddle and you mentioned you just had a baby after weight lost surgery...and I'm 3 years post op and 22 weeks pregnant with my third son. First pregnancy after weight loss surgery though ..but I was wondering..when you were pregnant did you have to drink the drink they make u take at your glucose tolerance testing?? I'm afraid I won't be able to drink it without getting dumping and that the results won't even be accurate due to the fact I had gastric bypass. My doctor is telling me just to do it anyway...even if I do get sick! I'm no longer in contact with my weight loss surgeons office so I'm not sure they'll help me out and tell me what I should do...do u know if there's any other way they could test for the glucose testing???

No you should NEVER take the glucose test. It can cause major issues and give a false reading. My doctor sent me to the diabetic doctor and they had me monitor my sugars after each meal and right when I woke up in the am for two seeks to determine if I had gestational diabetes. Please don't be afraid to speak up. I actually changed my diabetic doctor because I did not care for his lack of professionalism. My gyn was amazing when it came to my concerns with the testing.

Tell you doctor that they need to speak with a dietician they will confirm that you should never take in that amount of sugar

I would have passed out if I had. I get deathly I'll if I take in touch sugar

The ryn- y is short for roux-en-y. It the main gastric bypass were they make a small pouch and reroute your intestines. Also it was my pleasure. I remember starting my journey and being full of questions. I joined some fb groups but no one really posted unless they were showing off how amazing their journey was going and of course we all know that this journey is a hard one. I figured a lot of things out with research but had very little "support". So I promised myself to be a wealth of knowledge for others. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
