Should I be worried. Unknown Resident Doctor assisting or is it more?

Recommended Posts

I signed onto My Chart for a message. Posted was my August 10 surgery date and my surgical pre-op appt. Aug 5.

My surgery notification (the date I already knew) said procedure performed by Dr. Rosenthal (the one I know) and Dr. Ganga. I had two doctors (I didn't even know) do my egd, so I should assume they'll be more than one doctor doing my sleeve.

I couldn't find any info on him, other than he is a MD at Cleveland Clinic. From their site, I find he is in the Residency surgical program.

My biggest fear when going into a teaching hospital is that I'll be handed over to a student.

Is this common in a hospital clinic setting? I'm thinking I'm going to make sure I physically see Dr. Rosenthal before they put me under. Although to be honest, Dr. Rosenthal wears the thickest glasses I've ever seen. I did ask his nurse about his eyesight and she assured me its fine.

Am I just getting too picayune and just chill out and be happy insurance is paying. :)

I would get in writing who is doing what. It is not unusual for "switches" to occur. If he is just doing anything like holding trocars, being a retractor b***** (as it is called), that's one thing.

You want it in writing. There was a big expose about surgeons leaving the room after the biggest part of the operation was done to operate on others. Big stink. People got hurt because the surgeon wasn't immediately available and the resident/other doc got in trouble.

Btw, placing the trocars and the like can be the most dangerous part of the operation. They're going in blind.

In writing and you want proof of what goes on. If you wonder why I have problems with trust, it is legitimately based on. I have put up/out at least 1 150 page word documents on health care issues. I'm about over 100 pages on the 2nd one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
