John Couey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Couey, is an evil, pathetic, and ugly little man, who likely hasn't had much affection shown to him in life. To lock him up in a tiny cell, removed from all outside contact for the long length of time it takes to humanely execute somebody according to Florida law, is not justice. He needs human contact and interaction.

Justice for a child-molester-rapist-killer kind of guy like Couey involves recognizing his humanity. He needs to know we care about him. He needs to understand that he is not forgotten. He needs our compassion.

My solution: He should be housed in the general prison population, where he may receive the attention and affections of other violent inmates, who will recognize him as the human being he is, and treat him accordingly.

We can't bring Jessica Lunsford back, but it's not too late to do the right thing to for John Couey.

It is the compassionate thing to do. :shade:

For once, I completely agree with you. I feel that he shouldn't be sentenced to death, but rather be forced to live for the rest of his life in the prison's general population. That, to me, would be real punishment for him.

I've got horrible sleeping habits. That'll have to change, though, since I'm teaching this semester. I am definitely a night owl, so getting up early is going to suck.

I agree with both you guys. I have a hard time with the death penalty - don't really believe in the whole "eye for an eye" thing. In theory, it would seem like it costs more to house an inmate for the rest of his/her life, but how much money is spent by the government on appeals to death sentences. Besides, being incarcerated is not a vacation. I think spending the rest of one's life with absolutely no freedom is pretty good punishment. And putting a child molester/murderer in with the general population? Stellar idea!

I agree also...but I stop and think if it were my child he had hurt, I would want him dead not living his life as pathetic as it may be.

I totally believe in the eye for an eye thing. I think if you rape and murder someone, that's how you should die. If you strangle someone to death, then you should be hung or suffocated. You pour gasoline over a person and light them on fire, then you need to burn. You dismember and rape someone with a tree branch, then you should lose your limbs and meet Mr. Stick, too.

In this sick fuck's case, I agree that the general population will likely give him what he deserves and like Dahmer, he'll likely meet his maker in due course as well.

That's me, open and honest (to a fault at times).

I think that's part of what is wrong with our world, where are the consequences for actions? In the US people know the jails are overcrowded, they can beat folks or in some cases kill someone and get out in a couple of years or less (depending on the case). I fully believe if eye for an eye justice were instituted, lots of crimes would never occur. Can you imagine what person would be stupid enough to steal something if they knew they would be whipped or beaten on the hands? Or if they had their personal belongings then taken from them? Would as many rapes occur if a person knew that for committing that rape they'd in turn be raped or demoralized or have their genitals tortured? How many murders would occur if people knew that once convicted of murder, their own demise would be swift and in a similar manner to the crime they committed? (see above)

Wow, Derick! I think this is the first time I agree with you!

I don't believe in the death penalty -- I don't think anyone has the right to take the life of another human being, no matter what they might have done. But I don't have a problem with putting a child molester into gen pop!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
