Can someone please tell me how you are getting in your Water? It is so hard for me! I have had 2 IV's in 2 weeks. All Water tastes horrible. I have tries Crystal Light, infusing it, etc. I haven't had a bowel movement in 5 days. Not sure how that could happen if I'm eating a few bites here and there. I had my surgery on June 29th and have lost 40lbs. I am so discouraged by the water and hydration, that I am regretting the surgery. I teach and go back in 3 weeks and don't see how I can do this. I am weak and have no energy. Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

I used a timer and took an ounce when the timer went off... and I made sure all my water was ice cold. Can't stand it any other way. Not sure if that will help you. I also used alarms on my Fitbit to remember Vitamins. :) you can do it. Don't push it. Oh! And invest in a good quality double-wall stainless steel cup - that'll help the water STAY cold for hours since it takes longer to drink now - i think mine is only 12-16 oz.

I had surgery on the 26th, and had a bit of a rough start. Because of a different issue I ended up with a drainage tube for 2 days. I think that was more painful than the other. Have had a lot of trouble with stomach spasms. Althoyugh once they removed the drainage tube, things started moving a little quicker in the healing process. I just started using the Protein powder yesterday. Tried a drink called peppermint patty (choc Protein Powder, mint extract and skim milk)was not bad, today looking forward to a pina colada concoction, going to experiment with the recipes I was given. Still have pockets of air in my stomach, how long does that last? Other than that feeling pretty good today. Best day yet.

Will try to make it through the weekend. Walking constantly in hopes it's gas that need to be moved on out. Thank you.

Try gas x strips. Worked well for my gas and bariatric team said to use them as needed.

@@reddy4chng,

I am sorry you had a bad day, but I think you are handling it as well as possible.

Definitely do not underestimate the possible effects of work stress! Mental and emotional stress can really affect your physical health, so I am not surprised that you had trouble with those new foods.

Try not to worry that you’re going to “mess things up.” You are handling everything well by focusing on foods that you can handle, and being sure to put your liquids as a top priority even though they are tough to get down.

Also try to remember that every WLS is different. Your rate of recovery may be different than another patient’s rate. You may not be able to handle certain foods as soon post-op as another patient can, even if they are on your “approved” foods list for this time.

Hang in there! You are at a tough time post-op right now, when things are still a struggle and you’re still not even back to eating normal foods. It’ll pass, and you’ll feel better soon. And try not to worry – a day of struggling with new foods isn’t going to make a dent in your health or weight loss.

So - you haven't had surgery yet?

If I were more observant I would have noticed this by now I'm sure. I'm slow to catch on.

I only ask because I see that you joined this site in March 2016, you've made way over 2000 posts, and I notice that you are among the first to respond to new members seeking guidance from those who have been there and done that.

You must have really educated yourself on post op issues prior to considering WLS.

Thanks so much for your contributions! You are a pro-active kinda gal.

@@sharonintx I thought for sure you were going to tell me I have no business commenting! ????. I just started this WLS journey in March! I'm trying to become educated while I wait. I've learned a lot from this forum. I know many don't feel like I have any right to give advice not being a vet - but I'm just passing on what I've learned. I try to remember to say I'm preop.

I use MIO flavor enhancers....I like the lemonade flavor best but they have several...I didn't like Crystal Lite...but MIO is really good to me.....I have a 24oz sports bottle that I drink between 3 and 4 a day......Also, you may find it easier to use a straw....I know most say no straws after sleeve but trust me it won't kill you and in fact may make it much easier for you to get your Fluid in......also try it at different temps.....ice cold, cool, room temp, warm.......

I've also heard folks say using the little shot glass size red solo cups helps them they are 2oz each....one lady said she would fill four of them and sit them by her chair and drink them while watching TV...once she drank the four she would refill them and do it again...

I hope this helps! Good luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
