I am about a month post-op band to sleeve revision and am having a horrible time with GERD. I started off with one prilosec a day and quickly figured out that that wasn't going to be enough. Moved on to two prilosec a day and that was working but I was going through a bottle of Gaviscon pretty quickly. I was still getting some acid in my throat every day.

So my PCP gave me some dexilant samples and for about four days I thought that was the answer. No symptoms of GERD at all. On the fifth day, though, I was taking the dexilant in the morning and getting some acid at night. Yesterday, I got acid burps in the evening and today, in the afternoon. It's like even the dexilant isn't working like it did at first. I've been tracking my food and haven't been eating anything that would offend. I've cut out coffee, even though I used to love it. Staying away from tomatoes and potatoes too.

I am really scared that this will get worse and then what do I do?

What I'd really like to know - especially from sleeve veterans - is there anyone who had a big problem with GERD at the beginning and then got better? I hear so many of the other kind of stories - the ones where the GERD got so bad that conversion to bypass was the only option.

Im one month out and I went through that and is the worst feeling ever. I couldnt even swallow pills. My doc put me on a treatment for 2 weeks and Im feeling sooo much better. Talk to your surgeon and see what other options he has. I dont feel any pain anymore and no reflux. Talk to your surgeon and see what he says. Good luck

My surgeon switched me from Prilosec to prescription Prevacid post-op. Nurse told me it is because studies suggesting it has better profile for success during healing period. I am on it for 6 months. My gerd was not terrible but I did have some minor, what is it called acid damage? Post op. I feel it if I forget (only happened twice took it late).

I am 12 weeks out after the Sleeve and I am down 50 lbs + about 20 before the operation. I have acid reflux or mild indigestion after almost everything I eat. It is very discouraging but I believe that I still eat too fast which is a no no. I take Nexium now in the morning and evening and I think it might be helping. I definitely have been skipping meals in order to avoid the discomfort. I was advised to try and stick with soft food as much as possible. I drank some wine a few times and had a burning feeling the next day. I have found that hamburgers agree with me as do omelets and Soups. I see my surgeon next week for my 3 month checkup and I'll ask him about the indigestion. I am losing weight nicely but I think its because I skip meals. I also don't get in the 48-72 oz of fluids that has been recommended either. I suggest that we all had bad eating habits which are hard to break. Remember that they operated on our stomachs and not our minds.
Best wishes Bigelowrock

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
