Well, I have been feeling great lately and am comfortable while eating. Here is the deal....I am 1 month out and I was just able to eat 8 oz of food without much of any problem. That seems like ALOT! I had flakey fish and mashed broccoli. What is the deal? It is kind of scary that I can eat that much but I also feel healthier than barely getting in 2 oz. I'm still eating around 700 calories a day, never over.

Oh also, I only eat 3 meals a day....breakfast, lunch, and dinner and maybe one snack like a piece of cheese

Measure and stick to recommended portion sizes. Just because you can eat that much - you really shouldn't! Maybe eat more often.

They never gave me recommended portion sizes, that is probably part of the problem.

I wasn't given portion sizes either. My surgeon emphasized small bites and to take 30 minutes to eat. He also said that once all the swelling was gone, I will probably have a capacity of 2/3 cup. I am 5 weeks out and I eat very slowly. I am not able to eat more than 1/2 cup now and not always that much. I suggest slowing down some and really paying attention to how you feel. It may be that is your capacity or it may be too much with other foods. Have heard fish is easiest to eat a lot of.

Oh - yeah that's a problem. I believe my plan is 3-4ozs a meal at that stage. I don't know when it increases as they haven't given me beyond week 6 yet.

Ok great. Thank you. I also went ahead and emailed my nutritionist and asked.

I was told 1/2 cup or 1 cup with purees/liquids....not sure how everyone else measures, but that's my guidelines.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
