Teachers and UHC

Recommended Posts

Are there any teachers in the Houston area who have had success with United Health Care coverage on their Lap Band surgery? If not how does one afford the $15000-17000 for the surgery? At this point I am desperate.

I am a teacher but I do not have UHC. What problems are you having? I dealt with Cigna and encountered lots of hold-ups, but eventually got it covered. Maybe I can help!

Yes, I did. I had documentation from 2 different doctors. One from several years ago when I tried Meridia and then over the last 2 years when I had been trying Phentermine. I had the current doctor write a recommendation for me as well as review my records all the way back from my days of taking the Meridia. That, I believe, was very helpful.

Iam not a teacher how ever I do have United health Care and My wife and I were approved with in 30 days. They are looking for at least five years of weight loss no order, list of medical problems, all the drugs you are on, list of surgries, and stuff from the doctor.

When you talk about the five years of weight loss, do you your doctor supervised various weightloss attempts or documented the weightloss attempts in you medical record? Regarding the stuff from your doctor--are you talking about just your medical chart and history?

I took the information from every doctor visit that I had. I also made sure while at the doctor that he put in the file that I was looking at weight loss etc. When the doctor did the letter he stated in there what had been talked about at the differant visits. Now what was sent in to the insurance company Iam not sure on those details. I hope that this will answer your question.

My wife is schedule for the 12th of Sept. and Iam for the 19th. We have both started the liquid diet. The first day was hard but adjusting better today.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
