Chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and surgery

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is November and I have both illnesses above. I've read past topics, and would like any updates people can share.

I'm worried about the effects surgery may have on both illnesses. Anyone with experience with these? I'd really like to hear your experiences. Thanks,Janet

Honestly the weight loss that comes with this surgery can only help these situations. I was so ill prior to my bypass in 2014 that I literally (as my doctor stated) had one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel.

I have psoriatic arthritis, degenerative disc disease and severe arthritis of the spine along with all the other comorbitities that come with obesity.

Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Severe Gerd, sleep apnea and stage 3 chronic kidney disease.

Having RNY saved my life literally and although I still struggle with my spine issues all my comorbitities are gone or in remission including the worst one Stage 3 kidney disease.

There are many people on here who will attest to the fact that eating healthy and this weight loss can only help chronic disease.

I am eating healthy, have lost 151lbs ( is currently weight 158) and my energy level has never been better. My knee and ankle joint pain went away completely. If it were not from the damage to my spine I would be near 100%.

It is worth it but you have to be committed to eating right and getting as much exercise as you possibly can even if that means chair exercises. Every little bit you move your body is a step in the right direction. I currently joined a pro health club that has an indoor warm Water therapy pool and they have classes specifically for fibromyalgia and in the Water is the one place i don't feel pain.

Best of luck to you.

I have fibro, DJD in my lower spine, osteoarthritis, lax joints, plus a laundry list of other issues, and am 4 weeks post-op. I mostly had the surgery as a last resort to get whatever relief I could from those issues. I haven't had much time to see any improvement post-surgery. I've lost 70 pounds total since starting the process toward surgery, though, and I've seen some improvement since then so there mit be something to it. I wish you luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
